Job summary

Sorenson Communications, based in Salt Lake City, UT, is hiring a Software Engineer II for a hybrid role. Primary responsibilities include leading design and implementation of video communication apps, and applying AI tools to boost performance and usability.

You will work with React, REST APIs, and AWS services in a collaborative team environment. The position requires a BS in CS/EE and 3+ years building modern apps, with experience in React/Angular/Vue, REST APIs, and cloud services.

Qualifications

• BS degree in CS/EE with strong academic record.
• 3+ years of experience building state-of-the-art applications.
• Experience with React, Angular, or Vue.
• Experience building REST APIs in C#, Node.js, or similar.
• Knowledge of AWS services (EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB).
• Git and GitHub proficiency.
• Familiarity with Docker, Terraform and CI/CD workflows.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and team leadership in design, implementation, and testing of high-performance video communication apps.
• Use AI development tools to improve performance and usability.
• Implement standards-based communication protocols (XML, JSON, HTTP, REST).
• Recommend new technologies and directions for product development.
• Lead architecture discussions and automated testing.
• Support production deployments and incident response.
• Review peers' code and ensure engineering best practices.

Pay Range: Actual pay may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for incentive compensation.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required

• Provide technical and team leadership in the design, implementation, and testing of high-performance, high-quality video communication applications
• Effectively use AI development tools to create innovative solutions that increase application performance, and usability
• Implement standards-based communication protocols and related technologies including XML, JSON, HTTP, and REST
• Recommend new technologies or direction for product development
• Keep aggressive, attainable goals and time frames
• Drive standards-based architectures and supporting services
• Follow engineering best practices in a team environment to develop high-quality products including writing automated unit, component, and feature level testing
• Review and evaluate code written by peers
• Support production environments by participating in deployments, responding quickly to escalated issues, understanding that some of these events may happen during non-work hours
• Excellent software design and problem analysis skills with an ability to quickly learn new technologies and concepts
• Other duties as assigned

Experience/Education/Certifications

• BS degree in CS, EE, or equivalent with excellent grades
• 3+ years of experience developing state-of-the-art applications
• Experience building applications with React, Angular, or Vue
• Experience building REST APIs in C#, Node.js, or similar
• Knowledge of AWS services, including EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Route53, etc
• AWS Certification preferred
• WebSockets
• VoIP calling protocols including SIP
• WebRTC
• Git and GitHub
• GraphQL
• Linux or Docker Containers
• Terraform and GitHub Actions

• Able to sit/ stand for a long period of time in an office environment
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, tools, and to handle other computer components
