Job summary

Badger Meter in Los Gatos, CA is seeking a Software Engineer II (Full Stack) to design and deliver full stack applications that turn complex water data into actionable customer insights. You will work across Python, SQL, React, Java, and REST APIs to create scalable features that help customers monitor and optimize water usage.

Collaborate with product managers, designers, QA engineers, and fellow developers to drive quality and reliability.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience developing commercial software applications.
• Experience building backend services and RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of SQL and relational database design.
• Experience across frontend and backend technologies.
• Familiarity with React or similar modern JavaScript framework.
• Experience using AI coding assistants and the judgment to validate, test, and improve AI-generated code.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles, and engineering best practices.
• Experience with Git-based version control workflows.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently drive solutions forward.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Nice to have Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.

As a Software Engineer II, you'll play a key role in designing and delivering full stack applications that transform complex data into meaningful customer insights. You'll work across the entire technology stack, collaborate with talented engineers and product teams, and leverage modern AI-assisted development tools to deliver high-quality software at scale.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain full stack applications using Python, SQL, React, Java, and REST APIs
• Build features that help customers monitor, understand, and optimize water usage through data-driven insights
• Work with large-scale time series data, helping shape how it is stored, processed, and presented across our platform
• Leverage modern AI-powered development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and Codex, to accelerate development while ensuring quality, reliability, and maintainability
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, QA engineers, and fellow developers to deliver exceptional customer experiences
• Design and implement scalable APIs and backend services that support growing business needs
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges across the full technology stackParticipate in architectural discussions and contribute to key technical decisions

What You'll Bring
