Job summary

MISO is seeking a Software Engineer I to design, develop, and maintain high-performance applications for the Forward Market Solutions team. The role focuses on datadriven tools that modernize market operations, integrates AI, and scales with evolving energy markets.

You will collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and stakeholders across the FMS group to deliver value. Ideal candidates have a strong Python background (Flask preferred), experience with Git, SQL, and scripting, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields (or 4+ years of equivalent experience).
• Strong Python programming skills (Flask preferred), with experience in Git, SQL/PLSQL, and scripting languages.
• Ability to analyze complex data, interpret results, and work with reporting applications.
• Experience with Active Data Guard; Kubernetes, Docker, and Java are a plus.
• Excellent customer-facing communication and team collaboration skills.
• AI-native engineering: Experience using tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar AI-assisted development platforms.

Responsibilities

• Designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance applications supporting MISO Operations and forward markets.
• Coding, testing, debugging, documenting, and deploying software to meet requirements.
• Collaborating with Operations teams to define requirements and deliver tools that improve situational awareness.
• Translating business needs into technical designs and validating code integrity.
• Developing solutions to complex issues and communicating recommendations to stakeholders.
• Supporting operational tools, including on-call rotations and customer-focused assistance.
