MISO is seeking a Software Engineer I to design, develop, and maintain high-performance applications for the Forward Market Solutions team. The role focuses on datadriven tools that modernize market operations, integrates AI, and scales with evolving energy markets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields (or 4+ years of equivalent experience).
• Strong Python programming skills (Flask preferred), with experience in Git, SQL/PLSQL, and scripting languages.
• Ability to analyze complex data, interpret results, and work with reporting applications.
• Experience with Active Data Guard; Kubernetes, Docker, and Java are a plus.
• Excellent customer-facing communication and team collaboration skills.
• AI-native engineering: Experience using tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar AI-assisted development platforms.

MISO is hiring a Software Engineer I. This role builds and supports sustainable, practical solutions to complex challenges in MISO's forward markets while working closely with engineers, data scientists, and advisors across the Forward Market Solutions (FMS) team. You'll collaborate with leaders throughout MISO to deliver highquality, datadriven tools that modernize market operations, integrate AI, and enhance userinteractive applications that scale with the rapidly evolving energy industry. As a key liaison with our agile Software Engineering teams, you will help ensure that new solutions align with real operational needs and add meaningful value. The tools and insights developed by this team strengthen situational awareness, improve decisionmaking, and support our mission of optimizing markets, reducing risk, and delivering reliable energy to the region.

Your Responsibilities as our Software Engineer I include:

• Designing, developing, and maintaining highperformance applications that support MISO Operations and forward markets.
• Coding, testing, debugging, documenting and deploying new and modified software to meet business, operational, and compliance requirements.
• Collaborating with Operations teams and business stakeholders to define requirements, enhance applications, and deliver tools that improve situational awareness and decisionmaking.
• Translating business needs into technical designs and ensuring code integrity through appropriate controls, checks, and validation.
• Developing solutions to complex issues, communicating recommendations to stakeholders, and implementing effective courses of action.
• Supporting operational tools and processes as needed, including participating in oncall rotations and providing timely, customerfocused assistance.

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related fields (or 4+ years of equivalent experience).
• Strong Python programming skills (Flask preferred), with required experience in Git, SQL/PLSQL, and scripting languages.
• Ability to analyze complex data, interpret results, and work effectively with reporting applications.
• Experience with Active Data Guard; Kubernetes, Docker, and Java are a plus.
• Excellent customerfacing communication skills with the ability to collaborate, build consensus, and work as part of a highperforming team.
• AI-native engineering: Experience applying tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar AI-assisted development platforms across implementation, testing, review, documentation, and troubleshooting workflows.

Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.

The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $76,000 - $101,000 USD annually. Base salary range for this position is included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, and qualifications/experience.

Position is also eligible for an annual bonus if individual performance and company objectives are met. At MISO we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including 401k, vacation, sick and safe time, available on your first day of employment.
