Role Overview
The Software Engineer I builds and maintains APIs, workflows, integrations, and tooling that support underwriting and policy administration. Embedded in an engineering team, the role focuses on delivering assigned work with quality, learning the insurance domain, and developing technical judgment for independent contribution.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain APIs, workflows, integrations, and tooling for underwriting and policy administration systems.
- Complete assigned stories, tasks, bug fixes, tests, and documentation based on clear requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Write modular, maintainable code and proactively seek help when needed.
- Support operational workflows and production support including debugging, testing, automation, and issue escalation.
- Assist with integrations between internal systems, external vendors, and policy administration platforms.
- Improve internal engineering tooling and developer workflows.
- Use AI‑assisted engineering workflows, such as Claude Code, to enhance development speed, quality, testing, and documentation.
- Learn insurance domain concepts (quoting, binding, endorsements, rating, forms, policy lifecycle).
- Demonstrate ownership of work, follow through on commitments, and show curiosity when facing unfamiliar problems.

Qualifications
- 1+ year of software engineering experience.
- Strong foundational skills in Python or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Familiarity with APIs, integrations, automated testing, debugging, and modern dev workflows.
- Comfortable using AI‑assisted development tools; proficiency with Claude Code preferred.
- Eagerness to learn the insurance domain and apply business context to technical work.
- Strong communication skills, curiosity, accountability, and willingness to seek assistance.
