Job description

Cupertino, California, United States Software and Services

The Apple Services Engineering (ASE) team is one of the most exciting examples of Apple's long-held passion for combining art and technology. These are the people who power the App Store, Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple Books. And they do it on a massive scale, meeting Apple's high expectations with high performance to deliver a huge variety of entertainment in over 35 languages to more than 150 countries. These engineers build secure, end-to-end solutions. They develop the custom software used to process all the creative work, the tools that providers use to deliver that media, all the server-side systems, and the APIs for many Apple services. Thanks to Apple's unique integration of hardware, software, and services, engineers here partner to get behind a single unified vision. That vision always includes a deep commitment to strengthening Apple's privacy policy, one of Apple's core values. Although services are a bigger part of Apple's business than ever before, these teams remain small, nimble, and cross-functional, offering greater exposure to the array of opportunities here. We're looking for an engineer to join the team working on defining the future of our privacy-first instrumentation capabilities. You will work at the intersection of product management and engineering with a number of cross-functional stakeholders to answer two main questions: What data should we collect for our products and services and how will we get that data from client devices while preserving privacy.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to assist in the creation and enforcement of privacy and compliance policies and guidelines across ASE and Apple
  • 5+ years of experience working as a software engineer, technical product manager, or engineering-focused management consultant
  • Strong software design skills, coupled with a deep knowledge of data structures and algorithms
  • Comfort working with large, cross-functional teams spread across multiple locations
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills: The ability to translate ambiguous high-level analytics questions into concrete engineering asks
  • Strong prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously with overlapping deadlines
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to assist in the creation and enforcement of privacy and compliance policies and guidelines across ASE and Apple
  • Industry experience in Privacy-Enhancing Technologies for large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience with differential privacy, private data-synchronization across systems and devices, data minimization, tokenization, cryptography
