Job summary

Tin Can is building a safer, simpler way for kids to connect with families, without smartphones. We seek a Software Engineer to own the Communities product end-to-end, including a self-serve directory, call-routing rules, and data pipelines for neighborhood and school data.

You’ll work with the Head of Communities and engineers on the app, voice platform, and account portal, shipping with care for children’s data and with a strong bias toward reliability and observability.

Qualifications

• 4+ years building and running web services, with real ownership of what you shipped.
• Strong TypeScript across the stack — production API on AWS Lambda with Postgres and a Next.js front end.

Responsibilities

• Own the community portal, API, and ops tooling (Next.js, TypeScript on Lambda, Postgres).
• Make directories self-serve — join requests, approvals, creation without tickets.
• Own the rule that decides whether a community call connects and how it handles opt-in/opt-out.
• Capture families’ school and neighborhood data, build ingestion pipelines, show nearby communities.
