Job summary

ATS Group is seeking a software engineer to drive automation projects from programming through delivery, including follow‑up support and documentation. You will design with the team, supplier or customer and provide PLC, HMI and/or SCADA programming, while contributing to internal development and standardization.

Based in Merelbeke, you will advance within the automation domain, with occasional customer-site work and rare travel abroad.

Qualifications

• Master's or bachelor's degree in Industrial Sciences Automation, Electrical Engineering or Electromechanics.
• 3–5 years software experience with PLC and SCADA.
• Fluent in Dutch; understand and speak English; able to manage in French.
• Driver's license B.

Responsibilities

• Carry out automation projects from programming through delivery, including follow‑up support and documentation.
• Discuss specifications and design with team, supplier or customer.
• Provide PLC, HMI and/or SCADA programming based on project needs.

The Industry 4.0 era is leading us to an even greater shift from hardware to software. Industrial customers are working with ATS Group to build their factory of the future, where software integration is no longer an optional topic. So the Automation Business Unit's software team is looking for reinforcements.

Function

• As a software engineer, you’ll carry out automation projects either independently or as part of a team—from programming through to delivery, including the necessary follow‑up support and documentation.
• Together with the team, supplier or customer, you discuss specifications and design.
• Based on the project challenge and application, you will provide PLC, HMI and/or SCADA programming.
• In addition to project execution, you will contribute software‑wise to internal development and standardization.
• Taking into account knowledge and interest, you will be engaged as an integrator in one of our following industrial areas: Process, discrete/motion, robotics/AMR, custom machine construction.
• Depending on competence and commitment, you can advance within the same domain to a senior or team lead position where you will take charge of a project or software team.
• Works from our office in Merelbeke, during the start‑up of a project you will occasionally work on site at the customer's premises.
• Sporadic residence abroad.

Profile

• Master's or bachelor's degree with preference in Industrial Sciences Automation, Electrical Engineering or Electromechanics.
• 3-5 years software experience, PLC and SCADA.
• Proficient and proactive.
• Closely observed, analytical and asks critical questions, investigates and makes connections.
• Act pragmatically when necessary without losing sight of quality.
• Possess graphic understanding is a plus.
• You can express yourself fluently in Dutch, understand and speak English and can manage in French.
• You are in possession of a driver's license B.
