Job summary

Aquent is partnering with a global technology leader to deliver reliable, real-time experiences for billions of users. The Software Engineer will own on-call response for live content creation surfaces, investigate complex production issues, and deliver fixes that stabilize a high-visibility platform.

You'll work across frontend (JavaScript/TypeScript, React) and backend services, building tests, dashboards, and runbooks while collaborating with distributed teams worldwide.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent.
• Strong web development with JavaScript/TypeScript and React.
• Robust backend development and APIs.
• Experience with on-call production support in high-traffic consumer product.
• Ability to work independently and escalate when needed.
• Excellent written communication for asynchronous collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Participate in on-call rotation for live content creation surfaces; triage, investigate, mitigate, root cause analysis.
• Debug and resolve issues across web frontend and backend services in the live content creation stack.
• Deliver bug fixes, reliability improvements, and small to mid-sized feature work.
• Improve on-call health by reducing alerts, refining runbooks, and implementing monitoring and dashboards.
• Develop and maintain tests for live content creation flows.
• Document findings and solutions to build knowledge base.

What You’ll Do

• Participate in the on-call rotation for live content creation surfaces, expertly triaging, investigating, mitigating, and conducting root cause analysis for production issues.
• Debug and resolve complex issues spanning both web frontend and backend services within the live content creation stack.
• Deliver impactful bug fixes, implement crucial reliability improvements, and develop small to medium-sized features that enhance the platform.
• Proactively improve the health of on-call operations by reducing alert noise, refining runbooks, and implementing robust monitoring, logging, and dashboards.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive tests to ensure the stability and functionality of critical live content creation flows.
• Document findings and solutions thoroughly, contributing to a strong knowledge base for the team.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong web development expertise with JavaScript or TypeScript and React.
• Robust backend development experience, including building and debugging server-side services and APIs.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, taking ambiguous production issues from identification to resolution, and knowing when to elevate.
• Extensive experience with production support and on-call duties in a high-traffic consumer product environment, covering triage, debugging, mitigation, and root cause analysis of live issues.
• Comfort navigating and making safe, effective changes within a large, established codebase with minimal onboarding support.
• Excellent written communication skills, essential for asynchronous collaboration and comprehensive documentation.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Experience with live video, streaming, or real-time media systems.
• Experience with GraphQL.
• Background in reliability engineering, observability, or SEV response.
• Experience working with distributed or globally located teams.
