Applied Cyber Concepts seeks an experienced Software Engineer (Level 1) in Laurel, MD to support research, rapid prototyping, and software development initiatives, bridging cyber research and operational capability.

You will design, prototype, and deploy secure software components across full-stack architectures, implementing security controls and testing against government-approved plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with 7+ years of software engineering experience on programs/contracts of similar scope and complexity.
• 11 years of relevant software engineering experience without a degree (4 additional years substituting for the degree).
• Strong hands-on proficiency with Java.

Salary Range: $162,000 – $194,000 / year (dependent on experience, education, and skill set)

About the Role

Seeking an experienced Software Engineer (Level 1) to support Applied Cyber Concepts research, rapid prototyping, and software development initiatives in Laurel, MD.

In this role, you will bridge foundational cyber research and operational capability by designing, prototyping, and deploying secure software components. You will author comprehensive hardware/software design specifications and implement solutions across full-stack architectures—incorporating interfaces, security mechanisms, database integrations, backend frameworks, and intuitive user experiences while executing rigorous testing against government-approved test plans.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, test, and prototype software applications translating emerging applied cyber research into real-world mission capabilities.

Create hardware and software component design specifications adhering to industry-standard development methodologies.

Implement robust application designs encompassing security controls, database connectivity, performance optimization, and intuitive interfaces.

Work within Linux/Bash environments to build, debug, deploy, and maintain software components.

Execute comprehensive unit, integration, and functional testing; document results in accordance with approved test plans.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.

Experience & Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline plus at least 7 years of software engineering experience on programs/contracts of similar scope and complexity, OR

11 years of relevant software engineering experience without a degree (4 additional years substituting for the degree).

Core Language: Strong hands-on proficiency with Java.

Build & Development Tools: Solid understanding of modern software dependency and container tools including Gradle, Spring Framework, Docker, and Git.

Environment: Hands-on experience working in Linux operating systems and Bash terminal environments.

Desired Qualifications

Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline automation and continuous integration tools.

Strong background in Object-Oriented Design (OOD), code debugging, and test validation.

Understanding of PKI certificate management and X.509 security infrastructure.
