Job summary

Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) seeks multiple Software Engineers to work on a NASA Ames Research Center project (NAMS-2) in Mountain View, CA. Roles demand development of AI/ML applications, full-stack solutions, and cloud-based services under guidance from senior engineers.

You will build frontend and backend components, deploy cloud-native apps, and design RESTful APIs while following secure coding, CI/CD, and Agile practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, AI, IT, or related STEM field.
  • 0–3 years of professional software engineering, AI/ML, cloud computing, or related field.
  • Experience programming in Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, or C#.
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and software principles.
  • Familiarity with frontend technologies: HTML, CSS, JS, and frameworks like React/Angular/Vue.
  • Familiarity with backend development concepts, REST APIs, databases, and server-side programming.
  • Cloud platforms such as AWS/Azure/GCP preferred.
  • Experience with Git and collaborative software development.
  • Understanding Agile and DevOps is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to obtain government security clearance if applicable.

Job description

Job Description AMA is looking for full-time Software Engineers to work on a project under the NASA Academic Mission Services 2 (NAMS-2) contract at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA. The work is in support of Software Facilities Engineering at the Aviation Systems Division at NASA Ames Research Center. In this role the successful applicants will:

  • Provide technical leadership and expertise to support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of AI/ML applications, full stack software solutions, and cloud-based services under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Develop and maintain frontend and backend software components using modern programming languages, frameworks, and software engineering best practices.
  • Assist in deploying, configuring, and maintaining cloud infrastructure and services to support scalable, secure, and reliable applications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to implement software features, integrate system components, and support project objectives.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, documentation, and maintenance.
  • Prepare technical documentation, status reports, presentations, and demonstrations to support project reviews and stakeholder communications.
The Key Responsibilities Include
  • Implement responsive frontend user interfaces and backend services using modern web development frameworks, APIs, and databases.
  • Assist with designing and deploying cloud-native applications using commercial and government cloud platforms and cloud engineering best practices.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs, microservices, and data interfaces to support application integration.
  • Support the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines to automate software builds, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Follow secure software development practices and assist with implementing cybersecurity controls, code reviews, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Contribute to software documentation, architecture diagrams, technical reports, user guides, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify technical issues, recommend improvements, and support delivery of high-quality software solutions.
  • Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, code reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, software development tools, AI/ML techniques, and cloud computing services through continuous learning and professional development.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, or a related STEM field.
  • 0–3 years of professional experience in software engineering, AI/ML, cloud computing, or a related technical field (internships, research projects, or academic experience may be considered).
  • Experience programming in one or more languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, or C#.
  • Basic understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with frontend technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue).
  • Familiarity with backend development concepts, REST APIs, databases, and server-side programming.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform is preferred.
  • Exposure to source code management tools such as Git and collaborative software development practices.
  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies and DevOps concepts is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required government security clearance, if applicable.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Internship, co-op, undergraduate research, capstone project, or personal portfolio demonstrating software development or AI/ML experience.
  • Experience developing web applications or cloud-hosted applications through academic or personal projects.
  • Exposure to containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Experience with SQL or NoSQL databases.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and automated testing.
  • Relevant industry certifications or coursework in cloud computing, AI/ML, software engineering, or cybersecurity are a plus.
Salary Range
  • The salary range for this position is $105,000 to $135,000, based on experience.
  • US citizenship or Permanent Residency is required.
  • This is an onsite role in Mountain View, CA. Some hybrid work is possible.
