Job summary

Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc. is seeking a Test Engineer (Junior to Senior) to develop, test, analyze, and support test and data quality engineering for AFRC missions at Edwards AFB.

The role includes real-time MCC support, DATR configuration management, and post-flight data processing. The position is full-time onsite at NASA Armstrong, Edwards AFB, CA, with a salary range of $76K to $118K based on skill and experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Physical Science required for Junior/Intermediate levels; Senior requires 7 years in telemetry and data collection or Lead Analyst experience.
  • Master’s Degree with 1 year in Telemetry/Data Collection is acceptable for Intermediate.
  • US citizens or Permanent Residents are required.

Responsibilities

  • Gather project requirements for real-time displays, software, data processing, and data archiving.
  • Generate work orders to develop and update IADS configuration files.
  • Integrate updates into MCC control room builds and conduct V&V on changes.
  • Staff the MCC during missions to support displays, software, and data processing issues.
  • Collect and archive IADS logs and screens for post-mission analysis.

Job Description

AMA is currently seeking to hire one Test Engineer (Junior, Intermediate or Senior-Level candidates will be considered) for the development, testing, analysis, and support of test engineering and data quality engineering. This position supports the Mission Operations Directorate (Code 600), which provides critical engineering and technical services to AFRC. This role will specifically support and contribute to cross-functional data management projects. In this capacity, the position provides both system engineering and software engineering support to the Dryden Aeronautic Test Range (DATR), including gathering requirements for the Mission Control Center (MCC) real-time displays, performing derived parameter code calculations, processing, and reviewing post-flight data, and carrying out other mission-critical tasks. Additionally, the role involves supporting real-time control room operations, troubleshooting flight system anomalies, managing DATR configurations, and serving as project liaison for Range engineering.

Employment Details

This is a Full-time, onsite position at NASA Armstrong located on Edwards Air Force Base, CA. The salary range is $76K to $118K based on skill level and experience.

Primary Purpose

Provide pre-mission, mission, and post-mission support at Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC), which will include the following:

Responsibilities
  • Gather project requirements for: Real-time displays, Software, Data Processing, Data archival
  • Generate work orders to develop and update the Interactive Analysis and Display System (IADS) configuration files
  • Integrate updates into a Mission Control Center (MCC) control room build
  • Conduct verification and validation (V&V) for all changes
  • Perform pre-mission checks prior to real-time operations
  • Staff the MCC during mission execution to provide support for displays, software, and data processing issues
  • Generate TIE mission notes, highlighting items requiring additional investigation
  • Collect discipline engineer screen captures from display stations
  • Collect and archive IADS log files and IADS archive files
Desired Systems Knowledge & Technical Skills
  • Working knowledge of Mission Control System (MCS), Interactive Analysis and Display System (IADS), Flight Data Archive (FDA), ARMD Test Data Portal (ATDP)
  • Familiar with using Flight Data Studio (FLIDAS) to troubleshoot data anomalies
  • Understanding of telemetry standards (IRIG 106 Chapter 7 & 10) and high-resolution time synchronization
  • Familiar with systems engineering and software development lifecycles
  • Proficiency in programming logic, with practical knowledge of tools such as (Python, Matlab, C++)
  • Linux Systems Experience
  • Understanding of Aircraft buses/instrumentation
  • Version Control/Configuration Management (Git, Azure, etc)
Education and Experience Requirements

For Junior Engineers: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Physical Science

For Intermediate Engineers: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Physical Science with at least 3 years of experience in the Telemetry and Data Collection field of expertise, or, a Master’s Degree in Engineering or Physical Science with at least 1 year of experience in the Telemetry and Data Collection field of expertise.

For Senior Engineers: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in specialty field with 7 total years general professional experience in the Telemetry and Data Collection field of expertise, or, Bachelor’s Degree or higher in specialty field with at least 4 years Lead Analyst experience in the Telemetry and Data Collection field of expertise.

  • Communicate professionally (verbally and in writing) with multiple disciplinary teams and external organizations
  • Maintain detailed daily task status
  • Function as a higher-level role with the ability to guide less experienced personnel
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • May be required to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Candidates must be US citizens or Permanent Residents
