Job summary

Sentar Inc. is looking for a Software Engineer in Huntsville, AL, to develop and enhance complex software for the U.S. Air Force GBSD/Sentinel program. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline, an active Secret clearance, and experience in software development with object-oriented languages.

Position

Software Engineer – Huntsville, AL (Contract with the U.S. Air Force GBSD/Sentinel program).

Role Description

Develop, maintain, and enhance complex software systems for the GBSD/Sentinel mission, including processing‑intensive analytics, novel algorithms, large data set manipulation, real‑time systems, and business management interfaces. Work individually or as part of a team to review and test components for design compliance, resolve software defects, and contribute to system‑level design decisions.

Qualifications

Clearance Level

U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain SAP access; active Secret clearance with investigation/adjudicated within the past 6 years.

Education

Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline.

Experience

0: No experience required. 5 years for SWE 1, 10 years for SWE 2, 15 years for SWE 3. 4 additional years of experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.

Required Skills

• Software development in at least one object‑oriented language such as Java or C++.
• UI design and development experience or ability to interpret complex algorithms and requirements.
• Familiarity with Model‑Based Systems Engineering languages (SysML/UML) and concepts.

Preferred Skills

• Agile methodology, C/C++, Java/JS, real‑time processing threads, scheduling, synchronization, memory management.
• Experience with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence).
• Full software lifecycle experience: specification, design, implementation, integration, debugging, maintenance.
• Safety‑critical and nuclear‑critical software development (DO‑178C, AFMAN 91‑119, DO‑330, etc.).
• Structured process‑driven environment, peer reviews, revision control, defect tracking, build release practices.
• Middleware & drivers (RTOS, Linux, VxWorks) and anti‑tampering (cryptographic, secure communications, logging, SW deployment).
• Git tooling.
• Automated testing: unit and integration testing, test frameworks, application and system verification.
