Alpha Omega is actively looking to fill a position with the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) Data Stewardship Division (DSD). This division works in partnership with NOAA and the broader community to develop and maintain a robust infrastructure of hardware, software, and processes to support the ingest, long-term preservation, and delivery of environmental data products spanning from the depths of the ocean to the surface of the sun.

We are seeking a Software Engineer III to join our team. The role involves developing and maintaining web applications supporting metadata tooling, writing clean and efficient code, testing for issues, and playing a key role in stewarding our nation's environmental data archive.

Key Responsibilities

• 4+ years of experience in full-stack development.
• Build and maintain web applications that support metadata tooling.
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code using languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other web development technologies.
• Test websites or applications for issues such as bugs, slow loading times, and browser compatibility.
• Contribute to the stewardship of our environmental data archive.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent industry certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Developer – Associate).
• Experience/Skills: 4+ years in full-stack development, proficiency in Java/Groovy, Python, JavaScript, familiarity with XML and JSON, experience with MVC pattern, Git/GitLab, logical and analytical thinking, remote team collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Grails or Spring Framework.
• Expertise in web technologies (HTML, JS, CSS).
• Proficiency in XSLT, AWS cloud, Terraform, Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of CI/CD tools like GitLab, Jenkins, AWS CodeCommit.
• Experience with Atlassian Jira, Agile/SAFe Scrum methodologies.
• Certifications such as AWS Certified Developer – Associate.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range is approximately $63,000 - $70,000, with factors like experience and skills influencing final compensation. Benefits include PTO, federal holidays, health and dental insurance, life insurance, 401(k), flexible benefit plans, and professional development reimbursement.
