Job summary

United States Cold Storage Inc is seeking a Software Development Manager - Modernization to lead two engineering teams through the modernization of the warehouse management platform. You will guide architecture, delivery, and personnel decisions while balancing speed, reliability, and maintainability.

You will manage two teams, one internal and one European-based consulting team, and help staff and scale the internal group.

Qualifications

10+ years of software development experience with 5+ years of leadership experience.
Demonstrable experience in modernization of monoliths to microservices.
Expertise in the Java ecosystem: Spring, Hibernate, etc.
Strong understanding of system design principles including 12-factor app methodology, observability, and performance optimization.
Experience with Azure or a similar cloud platform.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field; Master's preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead two engineering teams of approximately 3–6 engineers each.
Transform a large Java monolith into API-first, event-driven microservices on Azure.
Review architecture, designs, code, and tradeoffs with senior leadership.
Partner with Architecture, Platform, SRE, QA, Product, and business stakeholders.
Own hiring, performance, and delivery outcomes for the teams.
Establish objectives and key results at team and individual levels.
Drive roadmap execution and production readiness.
Foster a culture of accountability, clarity, and continuous improvement.
