Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. in Seattle, WA seeks a Software Development Manager for the EC2 Gateway Networking org. You will lead a team delivering software-defined networking infrastructure at scale, partner with EC2 services, and own the full lifecycle from design to operations of distributed systems.

The role emphasizes architecture mindset, mentoring engineers, and collaboration across AWS teams to optimize availability and cost at cloud scale.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience.
• 3+ years of designing or architecting complex systems.
• Knowledge of full software/hardware/networks life cycle practices.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.
• Experience communicating with users and senior leadership.
• Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring and managing teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of software engineers building networking infrastructure at scale.
• Drive technical strategy and architecture decisions for control plane software.
• Partner with EC2 VPC Networking, S3, Direct Connect, and other services to improve availability and cost.
• Make trade-offs between short-term delivery and long-term architectural goals.
• Own the full SDLC including design, development, testing, deployment and operations of distributed systems.
• Build and scale a high-performing engineering team through hiring and mentoring.
• Establish engineering best practices for DevOps, CI, and infrastructure automation.
• Influence cross-functional teams and senior leadership on priorities and solutions.
• Monitor and improve system performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
