Job summary

Spectra Logic Corporation is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for the development, maintenance, and testing of firmware for tape libraries. You will drive architecture, mentor engineers, and ensure quality and on-time delivery.

The role requires a strong background in C/C++ and experience with Windows CE or embedded Linux, plus a BS in CS and ~10 years of production software experience. Hybrid work and competitive compensation are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent is required.
• 10 years of proven industry experience developing production quality software.
• Strong C/C++ development skills and ability to translate architecture into tasks.
• Experience with embedded environments (Windows CE or Linux) is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of software engineers in firmware development and testing for tape library systems.
• Ensure code quality, timely delivery, and adherence to budgets.
• Coordinate with other groups for testing and release cycles; mentor staff and drive architecture decisions.

This role is responsible for directing a team of SW Engineers on the development, maintenance and engineering testing of firmware that is used to run various tape libraries.

Essential Functions

• Leads team in the effective development of firmware, meeting standards for quality, timeliness, and budget.
• Ensures code quality and customer usability are paramount
• Models and expects timely, professional communication and interaction with other groups for product testing and release.
• Adjusts quickly to new architectures and designs
• Ability to translate concepts and architectural decisions into defined implementation tasks
• Ability to assess new technologies as it relates to potential products
• Able to provide help and clear direction to the team

Additional Responsibilities

• Manages and organizes projects and team resources efficiently, including meetings, coaching staff, hiring and firing as needed.
• Troubleshoots, acting as second-level support for non-routine issues
• Manages documentation of design and implementation issues

Qualifications/Prior Experience/Competencies

• 10 years of proven industry experience developing production quality software
• C/C++ expertise
• Clear and concise communication skills
• Experience with either Windows CE or embedded Linux development

Compensation

$158-193K/ year. While this salary range is a good faith and reasonable estimate, a candidate’s actual salary will be competitive based on a variety of factors including the candidate’s knowledge, skills, and experience.
