Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Senior Software Developer to own the development and support of payments platforms. You will shape design and architecture, mentor teammates, and deliver high-impact, business-critical systems at scale.

The stack includes .NET/C#, Java, Cassandra, Docker, HAProxy and Azure DevOps with a strong DevOps culture. Expect testing automation, ongoing improvements, and collaboration with product teams across global sites.

Qualifications

  • Experience with .NET/C# and/or Java in enterprise settings.
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases and data modeling.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
  • Proven along TDD and agile delivery in payments domain a bonus.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with ecommerce payments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain scalable frontend systems using .NET/C# and/or Java.
  • Produce test-driven features and drive quality through the TDD cycle.
  • Apply software design principles to build maintainable systems.

About the role

The payments service team are the heart of the company Technology, serving 28 million+ shoppers in the UK and abroad. We deliver HTTP services that reliably manage payments at global scale, 24 hours a day every day. We also provide capabilities that detect and prevent fraud and build upon innovative technologies to reduce loss. 100M+ transactions and billions of events per day, a billion pounds every week.

At the core of our operation are the APIs that handle a variety of payment methods including cash, card and gift card across stores, at our fuel stations and online. We also support wallet behaviours, repeat payments, refunds and identity checks.

As a Senior Software Developer at the company, you are responsible for the entire development and support process for a software programme. Your applications make previously sophisticated tasks simple with the impact ranging from saving time, effort or money to re-defining normal. As you might expect, the role focuses on day-to-day code writing however, you'll also get to lead on design and architecture as well as help mentor and develop those around you in the team!

You will be responsible for
  • Using your in-depth knowledge of .Net and the tool ecosystem to develop and implement scalable frontend systems.
  • Producing test-driven features and demonstrating your familiarity with the TDD cycle.
  • Applying your understanding of software design principles to build well structured, maintainable systems.
  • Working effectively with product stakeholders to communicate and translate needs into product improvements.
  • Breaking down work so we can deliver value incrementally and manage risk on larger projects
  • Facilitating group discussions on system design and working with Product Managers to drive value.
  • Supporting production systems, resolving, and learning from incidents.
  • Sharing knowledge with the wider engineering community.
  • Mentoring and developing others around you.
  • Producing proof of concepts to evaluate new tools.
You will need
  • Experience using .Net/C# and/or Java with an eagerness to take on new technologies.
  • Experience with both SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with cloud platform(s) (e.g. AWS, Azure, etc.)
  • Experience of working in agile environments and TDD.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Ecommerce payment systems would be a nice to have but is not crucial.
