Job description

Software Development Engineer II, Leo Space Engineering Applications

Job ID: 10587131 | Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Are you passionate about developing software applications and services for an advanced global connectivity system? Join the Amazon Leo Satellite Engineering and Mechanicals Development team at the forefront of AI-assisted electrical design for next-generation satellite hardware.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities
  • You will design, develop, and maintain scalable services and tools across our AI-assisted electrical design toolset: schematic design review, design and connectivity queries, component and datasheet intelligence, and design vault integration.
  • You will own end-to-end delivery of features, from technical design through implementation, testing, and deployment in AWS.
  • You will build and optimize data pipelines and APIs that support electrical engineering workflows, enabling traceability from each design version to the components and datasheets behind it.
  • You will collaborate with electrical and hardware engineers to translate domain needs into robust, maintainable software solutions.
  • You will drive integration efforts across engineering tools (e.g., Siemens Xpedition and its design vault) and internal platform services to ensure seamless data flow.
  • You will contribute to AI-driven capabilities such as automated schematic review, natural-language design queries, and cited component specifications.
  • You will participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • You will mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and ownership.
  • You will troubleshoot production issues, ensuring high availability and reliability of platform services.
A day in the life

As a Software Development Engineer on the team, the candidate will lead the design, architecture, and implementation of critical tools and services powering the satellite electrical design lifecycle. These tools span schematic design review, design data search, component and datasheet intelligence, and design vault integration. The candidate's work will directly impact Amazon's ability to scale satellite hardware development efficiently and effectively across engineering teams.
