Job summary

Expedia Group’s Software Development Engineer II role focuses on building and supporting Commerce Data products that provide a trusted source of truth for booking information. You will own data pipelines and services, design APIs, and work with AI/ML-enabled solutions to improve outcomes in a scalable system.

The team emphasizes end-to-end ownership, collaboration with product and data teams, and delivering high-quality, reliable software in a fast-paced travel tech environment in Austin.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 2+ years of professional experience building and maintaining production software, data-processing systems, or data pipelines.
• Strong ownership of services, pipelines, or features including design, implementation, deployment, and ops support.
• Proficiency in Java with data structures, algorithms, system design, API design, and data modeling.
• Hands-on experience with streaming/batch data processing using Kafka, Spark, and Amazon S3; familiarity with AI-driven tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain streaming and batch data-processing pipelines for scalable, secure data products.
• Build and operate data workflows using Kafka, Spark, and S3 with real-time ingestion and downstream consumption.
• Design, build, and evolve data-intensive software solutions in Java, including API design and data modeling.
• Collaborate with product, data, and engineering teams to translate requirements into reusable technical solutions.
• Own end-to-end lifecycle of components including testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident resolution.
• Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions within data pipelines and software services.
