Job summary

Audible is seeking a Software Development Engineer to define, design, and refine the tech that powers our audiobook platform. You’ll build and maintain systems used by millions of listeners, work with modern tools, and iteratively improve software quality.

You will join a collaborative team, tackle challenging problems, and contribute to scalable, customer-focused solutions while mentoring peers and embracing continuous learning.

Qualifications

• Experience with at least one general-purpose programming language (Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust, TypeScript).
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and OO design principles.
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or related STEM fields or have completed such a degree.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain software components and applications for Audible's platform.
• Identify and resolve defects through code review, log analysis, debugging, and troubleshooting.
• Write maintainable and scalable code as part of an agile engineering team.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to envision, design, develop, test, and launch customer-centric software.
• Apply CS and engineering principles to solve moderate-scale problems.
• Enhance testability, OE, and documentation for owned components.
• Handle data classification, storage, and management per company policies.
• Participate in the interview process and mentor fellow engineers.

As a Software Development Engineer, you will...

• Write maintainable and scalable code for software components as part of an agile engineering team
• Collaborate with stakeholders to envision, design, develop, test, and launch customer‑centric software that inspires and impacts users
• Apply computer science, engineering, and analysis principles to solve moderate-scale problems
• Continuously enhance testability, operational excellence (OE), and documentation for owned software components
• Handle data classification, storage, and management in accordance with company policies
• Participate in the interview process and provide mentorship to fellow engineers

Requirements

• Experience with at least one general-purpose programming language such as Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust, or TypeScript
• Experience with data structure implementation, basic algorithm development, and/or object‑oriented design principles
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or related STEM fields OR completed a Bachelor's or Graduate degree in specified fields
• Must be 18 years of age or older
