Job summary

re-zoo-me is seeking a Software Development Engineer with an AI focus to modernize legacy systems by delivering Java 21+ microservices and AI-assisted tooling. You will own the architecture, build secure REST APIs, and enable event-driven integrations with Azure Service Bus or similar platforms, while containerizing with Docker and Kubernetes and supporting CI/CD pipelines.

You will collaborate with product, architecture, security, QA, and business domains to deliver scalable, reliable payments

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field.
• 5+ years of professional Java development experience.
• Proficiency with Java 21+ and modern development practices.
• Hands-on AI-assisted coding tools experience (Claude Code).
• Experience with Spring, Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate, REST APIs.
• Background modernizing monoliths to microservices/cloud-native.
• Relational DBs, SQL, data modeling, and performance tuning.
• Experience with JUnit/Mockito for automated testing.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Azure Kubernetes Service.
• Experience with Azure cloud and CI/CD tooling (Git, Maven/Gradle).
• Ability to evaluate AI-generated code for security and maintainability.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

2. About the Opportunity:

The Software Development Engineer - AI Focus role is centered on leveraging AI-assisted coding tools as an integral part of the software development lifecycle. The position involves modernizing legacy systems by developing, deploying, and maintaining Java microservices and applying AI-driven methods to improve code generation, testing, and documentation. This role plays a critical part in evolving the architecture and reliability of domain services to support scalable, secure payment solutions.

3. Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and operate production-level Java microservices using Java 21+ and Spring Boot 3.
• Collaborate with internal experts and external partners to decompose legacy monoliths into domain-oriented services.
• Own the architecture, reliability, and evolution of domain services post-transition.
• Introduce modern engineering approaches to legacy code and processes.
• Develop and maintain secure RESTful APIs with API-first design.
• Implement event-driven integrations with Azure Service Bus or similar platforms.
• Manage data access layers using JPA/Hibernate, JDBC, and relational databases.
• Build automated unit, integration, API contract, regression, and end-to-end tests following TDD and shift-left practices.
• Utilize AI coding agents and AI-assisted tools for code generation, refactoring, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting while reviewing output quality.
• Containerize and deploy services using Docker, Kubernetes, and Azure container services.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and production support.
• Monitor application performance and participate in incident response and continuous improvement.
• Work with cross-functional teams including product, architecture, security, QA, and business domains to deliver solutions.

4. Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant Java development.
• Proficiency with Java 21+ and modern Java development practices.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted coding tools, specifically Claude Code.
• Experience with Spring, Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate, and REST API development.
• Background in modernizing monolithic applications to microservices or cloud-native architectures.
• Expertise in relational databases, SQL, data modeling, transactions, and performance tuning.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and preferably Azure Kubernetes Service.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Azure.
• Knowledge of CI/CD tools including Git and Maven or Gradle.
• Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code for security, maintainability, and performance.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:

• The base salary range is budgeted between $119,070 and $150,000 with eligibility for an annual bonus.
• The actual salary offered depends on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, education, certifications, business needs, and market demand.
