Job summary

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team building core storage components for the IAM Control Plane.

You will own the design, development and delivery of high‑availability authentication services and fleet management workloads, while driving performance and reliability across global services. You will recruit and mentor engineers, partner with product and program teams, and communicate progress to senior leadership in an Agile environment.

Software Dev Manager - AWS IAM, Control Plane

We are looking for a strong Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for building core storage components for the next generation IAM Control Plane architecture. AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) enables customers to secure their workloads in the cloud by providing authentication and authorization mechanisms. The IAM Control Plane teams are working on the next generation architecture for IAM aiming to improve scaling and availability. This team will be responsible for designing, building, and delivering core storage fleet management components, including fleet building, failure remediation, data replication, disaster recovery, and related workloads.

In the Utility Computing (UC) organization, you will support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services, including specialized security solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Defining and delivering on long‑term product and architecture strategy for AWS IAM services.
  • Operational ownership of low‑latency, high‑availability authentication and authorization services used globally.
  • Recruiting, hiring, mentoring, coaching, and performance managing a best‑in‑class engineering team.
  • Communicating development, quality, operations, and system performance to senior leadership.
  • Owning and continuously improving all operational metrics and automation tools for the team’s software.
  • Executing against project plans and delivery commitments while managing day‑to‑day activities in an Agile/Scrum environment.
Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
  • 7+ years of direct engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting high‑reliability, scalable systems.
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi‑tier web services.
  • Knowledge of full software development life cycle practices and patterns.
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience communicating with users, technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe product features, technical designs, and strategy.
  • Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring, coaching, and managing teams of software engineers to improve skills and effectiveness.

The base salary range for this position is $184,900.00 - $250,200.00 USD annually. The total Amazon package may include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Your compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
