Job summary

Suvi, an Akima company, seeks a Software/Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize high-performance data pipelines and ETL processes powering a web-based search and analytics app.

This hybrid role is on-site in Chantilly, VA, one day per week, with an active Top Secret clearance and SCI eligibility. You will extract data from MySQL, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL; write Python data adapters; and tune ETL workflows for speed, scale, and reliability.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret clearance and SCI eligibility with the ability to pass a CI polygraph.
• Bachelor’s Degree in an IT related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in Python development, with a focus on ETL processes.
• 3-5 years of experience writing SQL queries.
• Proficiency in working with relational databases, specifically MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
• Strong understanding of data transformation, cleansing, and normalization concepts.
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. GIT) and collaborative coding practices.
• Experience with data warehousing, big data frameworks, and API-based data integration from enterprise source systems.
• Knowledge of data quality, validation and monitoring frameworks, along with data governance, metadata management, and data lineage best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Experience working in an Agile Scrum environment.
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Bash).
• Proficiency with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker).
• Experience working in Linux environments.

• Perform rigorous testing and debugging to ensure the stability and performance of data adapters.

• Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all development work.
• Tune performance of large-scale data workflows for cost efficiency, low latency, and high availability.
• Design and manage Elasticsearch/OpenSearch clusters for fast search, indexing and retrieval of large datasets.
• Integrate new systems with existing data warehouse structures, enhancing performance and functionality.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for data systems, automate monitoring/alerting and apply infrastructure-as-code best practices.
• Participate in Program Increment (PI) and Agile Release Train (ART) activities.

This role requires the extraction, transformation, and loading of data from various sources (including relational databases and file formats), developing data adapters in Python, and fine-tuning workflows for speed and scale.
