Addison Group is seeking a Technical Accounting Consultant to lead software capitalization assessments and related accounting work under ASC 350-40. This hands-on role focuses on internal-use software accounting rather than IT or project management. The ideal candidate will review SOWs, vendor invoices, and project documentation to determine capitalizable vs.

expensed costs, apply U.S. GAAP, and prepare audit-ready analyses. CPA preferred; Big 4/accounting advisory experience is valued.

Qualifications

• Hands-on ASC 350-40 / internal-use software capitalization experience.
• Experience reviewing SOWs, invoices, project documentation, and GL activity.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting concepts.
• Excellent documentation and reporting skills; ability to explain accounting conclusions clearly.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform ASC 350-40 assessments for software development, implementations, ERP, SaaS/cloud, and related projects.
• Determine capitalizable vs. operating expense (Opex) treatment for costs.
• Review SOWs, invoices, project docs, contracts, and GL activity for proper accounting.
• Identify misclassifications and recommend correcting journal entries.
• Research and apply relevant U.S. GAAP guidance.
• Document assessments and supporting rationale in audit-ready format.
• Partner with accounting, finance, IT, and project stakeholders to gather info.
• Review existing practices and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Assist in developing software capitalization policies and procedures.
• Work independently across multiple projects with minimal oversight.
