Adjunct Faculty – Sociology

Location: District Wide (City, Mesa, Miramar)

Pay Information: Adjunct college salary schedule applied upon receipt of official transcripts and verification of previous work experience. Initial placement at first class/step.

The Position

Part‑time/temporary faculty positions offer flexible hours for adult students in community college districts. Positions are as‑needed and applicants should live within commuting distance to San Diego. Assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off‑campus classes.

Major Responsibilities

• Teach lecture and lab classes per curriculum and course outlines.
• Remain available to students outside of class.
• Maintain professional conduct and ethics.
• Keep current knowledge in subject matter areas.
• Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part‑time faculty member.
• Teach all scheduled classes.
• Maintain accurate academic records.
• Provide quality instruction and foster a learning environment encouraging discussion.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Sociology; or
• Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a Master’s degree in Anthropology, ethnic studies, social work, or psychology; or
• Possession of a California Community College Instructor Credential in Sociology (valid for life); or
• The equivalent.

Applicants with foreign degrees from outside the United States must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Academic Credentials Evaluation Institute, Inc. (ACEI). A copy of the evaluation must be submitted with the online application.

Conditions of Employment

• Submit official college transcripts.
• Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Examination for initial appointment; renew every 4 years.
• Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the district’s expense; clearance must be received prior to first day of employment.
• Present original documents proving eligibility to work in the United States.
• Newly hired faculty may be transferred to any site at the Chancellor’s discretion.

• All SDCCD employees must provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment and must renew the certificate every 4 years as a condition of continuing employment.
