Job summary

Newport Academy is seeking an Inpatient Social Worker to join the treatment team, collaborating daily with Psychiatrists and Therapists to support patients during acute care. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate psychosocial services within an average 7-10 day stay and help develop discharge plans.

You will provide psychoeducation to patients and families, coordinate care with outside providers, and lead groups for children, adolescents, and young adults while applying CPS-based

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work required.
• Minnesota licensure (LGSW) required; LICSW preferred.
• Two years of mental health care experience preferred.
• Experience with children, adolescents and families preferred.
• Experience using electronic health records preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate care with staff; multi-task in stressful settings.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

As an Inpatient Social Worker, you will be at the heart of our treatment efforts, collaborating daily with Psychiatrists and Therapists as part of the primary treatment team. Your responsibilities will include:

• Uphold and apply clinical knowledge and understanding of emotional and behavioral health practices and principles
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the psychosocial services for patients and share social work expertise with members of the treatment team within the average length of stay of 7-10 days
• Develop and revise treatment and complex hospital discharge plans and communicate these with patients, caretakers, the treatment team, and direct care staff
• Provide psychoeducation to patients, caretakers, the treatment team, and direct care staff regarding diagnosis, symptom management, recommendations, discharge plans (including leading discharge meetings), safety plans, patient rights, financial impact issues, and other pertinent patient care matters
• Communicate effectively with external providers, agencies, and government and private payer networks to develop relationships and refer patients to the next appropriate levels of care following hospitalization
• Lead child, adolescent, and young adult therapy/process groups on the inpatient units
• Within the training process, complete Think: Kids: Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) training and recognize that Kids Do Well If They Can. Participate in using the CPS Assessment and Planning tool to help kids develop skills for their challenging behaviors.
• Oriented to ethically provide and advocate for patient-centered, culturally appropriate, age-appropriate care

What Makes You a Great Fit

• • Requires a Master’s Degree in Social Work. Requires licensure in the State of Minnesota, LGSW required, LICSW preferred.
  • Two years' experience in a mental health care setting preferred.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents and their families strongly preferred.
  • Experience using electronic health records preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to communicate in written and verbal form effectively and efficiently.

• Compensation for this role ranges from $33-$40 per hour, depending on licensure and experience, plus shift differentials.
