GENERAL STATEMENT OF WORK The Social Studies Resource Teacher supports teacher professional development and collaborates with the Content Specialist to develop social studies curriculum, assessments and district-wide programs.

Education And Work Experience

  • Master's degree and Advanced Professional Certificate.
  • A minimum of five years of exemplary teaching experience social studies.
  • Leadership capability to include effective communication and human relations skills.
  • A working knowledge of current trends, practices, and programs in social studies.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates leadership capability to include effective organization, communication, and human relations skills.
  • Expertise in the Maryland State Department of Education standards and frameworks in social studies.
  • Knowledge of current trends, practices, and programs within K-12 instruction.

Essential Job Functions

  • Works with Content Specialist to plan and implement instructional programs.
  • Develops a school visit schedule that prioritizes teacher needs and routinely reports to schools to support teachers.
  • Collects and analyzes data to identify curricular, staff development, and assessment needs for the program.
  • Collaborates with central office and school-based staff to implement, monitor, and evaluate program status and needs.
  • Provides technical assistance to schools, other content areas, and departments regarding the program.
  • Plans, develops, and implements in-service and professional learning courses relevant to the needs of teachers and other personnel.
  • Along with the Content Specialist, serves as a program liaison to the Maryland State Department of Education, community organizations, and other agencies.
  • Supports the planning and execution of district-wide extracurricular programs and events related to the social studies program.

Environmental Factors & Physical Requirements

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
