SUMMARY:

The C5 + ONE (Opening Networks through English) Resource Teacher will work in a team with other Resource and Lead Teachers on this project that supports English for special purposes (economic development) for young professionals throughout Central Asia, and will report to the Almaty-based Program Director. The Resource Teacher will support five Lead Teachers in their work to provide training and mentoring to program classroom teachers to deliver English for special purposes programming.

Responsibilities:

  • Select, train, and mentor teachers serving as English for special purposes instructors in assigned country/countries in collaboration with local Lead Teacher both in person and remotely;
  • Lead the curriculum design, teaching and learning materials and lesson plans development and adjustment in the course of program implementation.
  • Support the content development and integration of English for special purposes (economic development) component of the program.
  • Assist in facilitating national and region-wide networking events, workshops and conferences, including but not limited to developing agenda/program, moderating and leading sessions, coordinating external experts’ engagement, networking with organizations/individuals locally, in the U.S., and internationally;
  • Support the C5+ONE program by conducting professional development activities for instructors, which includes but is not limited to, webinars, workshops, demo lessons, presentations, co-teaching practices, etc.;
  • Share U.S. culture and values with students and teachers in the region through classroom visits and extra-curricular activities;
  • Represent the program and American Councils with the U.S. Embassy, local employers, government officials and U.S. companies engaged in the field of economic development in Central Asia;
  • Ability to travel throughout all countries in the region to carry out job responsibilities;
Qualifications

  • A master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent graduate-level degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English for special purposes, Curriculum Development, or a related field;
  • Minimum of five years’ teaching experience in a TESOL related field;
  • Demonstrated experience conducting English language teacher professional development and curriculum development;
  • Demonstrated commitment to the field of English language teaching;
  • Experience in the Central Asian region strongly preferred;
  • Strong team player with ability to work independently;
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity;
  • Native English fluency and significant experience in American educational environments; and
  • Ability to be employed in the United States without sponsorship.
