Job summary

The Salvation Army North & Central Illinois Division is seeking a Social Services Coordinator to support the Director of Social Services, manage social media for marketing, and coordinate resources for clients in the Lafayette, IN area.

This role requires a Bachelor's in Social Work (or applicable experience), valid driver’s license, and training in Safe From Harm and SIMS data management. Local travel and event involvement are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work preferred; applicable experience will be considered.
  • Background checks required; results will be reviewed.
  • Two years' experience in social services and/or case management.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license; Safe From Harm training within 90 days; Caseworker Certification within 120 days; SIMS data training within 30 days.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Social Services, Community Services Coordinator, and Pathway of Hope Coordinator in serving clients.
  • Coordinate and update social media platforms to raise visibility of The Salvation Army's Social Services.
  • Plan and execute Salvation Army events, including distributions, winter warm-up, Angel Tree and community events.
  • Design promotional materials for events and liaise with media outlets to publicize activities.
  • Provide case management for emergency services, Pathway of Hope, bus passes, work boots, and other programs.
  • Refer applicants to appropriate programs and connect with needed resources.
  • Assist in youth and family programming and food pantry operations.
  • Complete client intake assessments and orders for Food Pantry; assist in SIMS and other databases.

Salary Range Starting at: $18.36/per hour
Job Objective

The Social Services Coordinator assists the Director of Social Services in the operation of the Social Services department and coordinates social media efforts and platform for marketing and promotions. This position provides resources and support to individuals ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do
  • Assist the Director of Social Services, Community Services Coordinator, and Pathway of Hope Coordinator in serving clients
  • Coordinate and update social media platforms with a focus on enhancing the visibility of The Salvation Army especially in the area of Social Services.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of key Salvation Army events, including holiday and seasonal distributions, winter warm-up, Angel Tree, Tools for School and community events
  • Design and create promotional materials for special events, including contacting media outlets to publicize key activities.
  • Provide case management for emergency services, Pathway of Hope, bus passes, work boots, and other Social Service programs under the direction of the Director.
  • Refer applicants to appropriate programs and help connect with needed resources at The Salvation Army and in the community
  • Assist the POH Coordinator with the creation and implementation of youth and family programming
  • Assist in the operation of Food Pantry by completing client intake assessments and/or assisting in completing client orders
  • Complete all required documentation in SIMS (Salvation Army Information Management System) or other databases in an accurate, timely manner
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree of Social Work (preferred, but applicable experience will be considered)

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Two years' experience in social services and/or case management

Certifications: Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. Must complete Safe from Harm training within the first 90 days of employment; Caseworker Certification Program within 120 days of hire; SIMS data training within 30 days of hire.

Skills/Abilities
  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
