Job summary

Boys & Girls Club of Worcester is seeking an energetic Social Recreation Coordinator to design and lead recreational and educational programs for youth ages 8–18. The role focuses on building confidence, teamwork, and life skills in a safe, engaging environment.

The Boys &amp Girls Club of Worcester is seeking an energetic, creative, and relationship-focused Social Recreation Coordinator to bring our Games Room and recreational programming to life. This is more than supervising games. It is an opportunity to create experiences that help young people build confidence, develop friendships, strengthen life skills, and discover new interests in a safe, positive environment.

This temporary (possibly can become permanent) position is available immediately. This is a part time, Monday through Friday, 29 hour position, afternoons into evening hours.

The Social Recreation Coordinator, reporting to the Director of Operations, will design and lead engaging recreational and educational programs for youth ages 8-18. Through activities such as tournaments, game nights, team challenges, leadership activities, enrichment programs, and interactive learning experiences, the Coordinator will help members develop communication skills, sportsmanship, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and good character while having fun. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, organized, and passionate about creating memorable experiences that keep youth engaged, connected, and excited to come to the Club every day.

We recognize thirteen holidays annually and our centers are closed. Additionally, if the holiday falls on a weekend day, we will be closed the Friday or Monday closest to the holiday.

What You\'ll Do:
Create Engaging Programs
  • Develop and facilitate a variety of recreational, educational, and enrichment activities in the Games Room and throughout the Club.
  • Organize tournaments, theme days, game nights, challenges, and special events that encourage participation and friendly competition.
  • Use games and recreation as tools to teach teamwork, leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and critical thinking skills.
  • Introduce innovative programming that combines fun with learning and personal growth.
  • Create inclusive opportunities that engage youth of diverse backgrounds, interests and abilities.
Build Relationships and Positive Experiences
  • Foster a welcoming, safe, and supportive atmosphere where all members feel valued and respected.
  • Encourage positive peer interactions and model sportsmanship, respect, and responsibility.
  • Build meaningful relationships with members and serve as a positive role model and mentor.
  • Promote participation throughout the Club and encourage youth to explore a variety of program areas.
Lead and Inspire
  • Supervise Games Room activities and ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
  • Support volunteers and program staff, providing guidance and feedback as needed.
  • Collaborate with other program staff to create cross-departmental activities and special events.
Connect with Families and the Community
  • Build positive partnerships with parents, schools, and community organizations.
  • Promote Club programs through announcements, displays, social media content, and special events.
  • Help showcase the impact and excitement of Club programming.

Requirements
Additional Responsibilities
  • May oversee special programs and/or events and/or participate in the implementation of other Clubhouse activities as necessary.
  • May be required to periodically drive Club van.
  • May consult with parents concerning member and Clubhouse issues.
  • Perform light cleaning and assume other duties as assigned.
Education

Degree in related field from an accredited college or university OR equivalent experience.

Preferred but not required: A minimum of two years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.

Skills/Knowledge Required in the Following Areas:
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to be active (standing/moving) for extended times (3 hours).
  • Group leadership skills including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
