Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a Communities and Social Performance Lead - North America to guide social performance strategies for Mining & Metals projects across the United States and Canada. You will lead stakeholder engagement, manage social risks, and strengthen Bechtel's position as a trusted delivery partner.

The role combines technical leadership with business development input, sustainability planning, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, with travel as required and a hybrid work setup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required with extensive experience in social science, sustainability, planning, or related discipline.
• Significant experience in social performance, stakeholder engagement, Indigenous relations, or related field.
• Experience supporting large-scale mining, infrastructure, energy, industrial, or construction projects.
• Understanding of social licence, stakeholder engagement, impact assessment, risk management, and value creation.

Responsibilities

• Support regional business development and project teams to understand sector trends, ESG expectations, and social performance priorities.
• Identify and communicate social performance risks, opportunities, and stakeholder considerations affecting project viability and permits.
• Develop relationships with Indigenous Nations, communities, governments, customers, regulators, and other stakeholders.
• Identify Indigenous partnership, procurement, employment, and community investment opportunities aligned with project objectives.
• Provide social performance, ESG, and decarbonisation input to pursuits, proposals, and strategic planning.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Legal, ES&H, and Project Controls to integrate social performance in plans and studies.
• Monitor evolving regulations and stakeholder expectations across the US and Canada and advise teams accordingly.
• Mentor Sustainable Development practitioners and share best practices with regional/global teams.
