Social Media Strategist & Content Creator

Remote (with ability to travel occasionally for events, content capture) | Part-Time

Up to $45/Hourly, dependent upon experience

Are you a social-savvy, cannabis fluent marketing creative who thrives in fast-moving, purpose-driven environments? Our Client is looking for a part-time Social Media Strategist and content creator to join their growing team, shaping the voice of a bold, Americana-inspired cannabis and hemp brand. With a strong mission supporting veterans and first responders, a fresh presence on new social channels, and the opportunity to build out and lead content strategy, storytelling, and engagement from the ground up, this role is perfect for someone who lives and breathes digital trends, and wants to contribute to a movement, not just a brand.

About Our Client

Our client is on a mission to legalize cannabis for Veterans and first responders nationwide, destroy stigma, and give back to those who serve. A portion of every purchase supports organizations aiding these heroes and helps fund lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C.

Through their consumer cannabis and hemp brands, our client is elevating individual experiences and uplifting communities that have selflessly served. Their direct-to-consumer hemp line offers gummies shipped nationwide under the same parent brand.

As the #1 infused flower brand in California and the recent winner of Cannabis Flower Brand of the Year at the 2024 Emjays, our client is expanding across states and adding new hemp-based offerings. They’re now seeking a social-first storyteller to help shape their voice, grow their community, and be part of a purpose-driven movement.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a freelance Social Media Strategist & Content Creator to craft engaging, on-brand organic content while navigating the unique challenges of social growth within the cannabis space. You’ll be responsible for content creation, organic growth across platforms, and community engagement.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute a robust social media strategy to grow engagement and brand presence across platforms – Instagram (priority), TikTok (not yet launched), X, LinkedIn, and potentially YouTube (not yet launched)
  • Create high-quality content (videos, graphics, memes, stories, and posts) aligned with the brand’s mission and audience
  • Ensure all content complies with platform policies and cannabis marketing regulations
  • Engage with the online community, responding to comments and DMs, and strengthening brand presence
  • Support email marketing efforts (experience here is a plus)
  • Design visually compelling assets using tools like Canva or Adobe Suite
  • Edit video content for social; collaborate with external partners on larger video projects
  • Monitor trends and analytics to optimize content strategy continually
  • Collaborate with a paid media agency supporting the hemp business
  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing on strategy and execution

What You Bring

  • Experience in social media within the cannabis industry
  • Strong understanding of organic social growth strategies, especially within regulated spaces
  • Creative problem-solving and a deep understanding of how to navigate platform restrictions
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and platform changes – a first-mover mindset
  • Experience producing high-quality, compliant, and engaging social content
  • Strong writing skills for captions, social copy, and email messaging
  • Graphic design experience (Canva is sufficient; Adobe Suite is a plus)
  • Familiarity with email platforms like Klaviyo or Mailchimp
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team structure
  • Passion for cannabis advocacy, culture, and community
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a quick-thinking approach to shifting priorities
  • Bonus: Experience with influencer management
