Job description

Background

Bloomberg Philanthropies works to create catalytic change across five areas of focus: arts and culture, education, the environment, government innovation, and public health. Our mission is to ensure better, longer lives for the greatest number of people. Our approach is rooted in Mike Bloomberg's unique experience and success across the field of business, government, and philanthropy.

The Position

As a member of our Social Media team, you will create and oversee compelling social media content that brings complex, nuanced work to life across platforms. This role works closely with internal and external partners to tell the story of Bloomberg Philanthropies' global impact. You will contribute to shaping our digital strategy by identifying trends, interpreting performance data, and proactively recommending content and platform opportunities. The ideal candidate is creative, highly organized, detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced, 24/7 news and social media environment. This is an in‑person role based in New York City.

Responsibilities

  • Ideate and implement social media content for platforms including Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, YouTube, and emerging channels that translates nuanced topics into engaging, platform‑appropriate storytelling.

  • Draft, copyedit, and coordinate approval for social media scripts, captions, metadata, and community posts.

  • Support launches, announcements, events, and other key moments with social and digital components.

  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders including photo/video, program communications, speechwriting, and events teams.

  • Identify and proactively recommend digital trends, formats, and platform opportunities.

  • Manage social media operations for @BloombergDotOrg accounts, including project planning, paid media coordination, and reporting.

  • Work with external agencies and Social Media Team Lead to elevate Bloomberg Philanthropies' YouTube presence. Develop YouTube community posts, Shorts cutdowns, and thumbnails.

  • Manage paid media strategy across all social media channels. Track and report paid and organic social media performance, create analytics reports, assess what’s working, and provide recommendations.

  • Work closely with Social Media Team Lead to identify gaps and opportunities for Bloomberg Philanthropies' social media growth. Partner together to evaluate agency needs, analyze and make recommendations, and negotiate vendor scopes.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of hands‑on social media experience.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience publishing and managing content across major social platforms.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines.

  • Ability to interpret social media metrics and translate data into actionable insights.

  • Experience providing direction to agencies and collaborating across internal teams.

  • Proficiency with standard workplace tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
