Job summary

The HUB OC is seeking Social Media Interns to join the Communications Team in Orange County. The role supports the nonprofit's digital strategy across social platforms and helps tell stories from our programs serving youth facing housing insecurity.

You will create content, capture photos and video, perform basic Canva design, and assist with the content calendar under supervision. This is a 19-hour-per-week, on-campus opportunity in Orange, CA with federal work‑study eligibility and alignment

Qualifications

  • Experience with social media platforms
  • Ability to craft media, copy, messaging for social media posts
  • Working knowledge of major social platforms and current trends
  • Basic graphic design skills (Canva at minimum)
  • Comfort with Google Workspace and willingness to learn new tools
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and take direction
  • Discretion when handling donor information or anything sensitive
  • Reliable, self-directed, and curious

Responsibilities

Job Description Summary The HUB Resource Center (The HUB OC) is a nonprofit organization in Orange County that provides supportive services, resources, mentoring, and stability-focused programs to youth and young adults experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, or other challenging life circumstances. The Hub OC is seeking Social Media Interns to join the Communications Team, work with a small team of other interns, to help drive our digital strategy across our social platforms.

About The Hub OC Communications:

The Hub OC is a large, growing nonprofit in Orange, CA. The Communications Department is responsible for overseeing the organization’s digital strategy, including:

  • Websites
  • Email Marketing
  • Social Media
  • Media Distribution
  • Asset Management (photos, video)
  • Print Media
  • Merchandising
  • Event Promotion
  • Etc.
Social Media Intern Position

This position plays a key role in the organization’s digital strategy: Supporting a team that oversees all things social media. The person in this role works closely with the Director of Communications, the Social Media Coordinator, and other interns to manage social media platforms, disseminate information, and tell stories being written through the various programs at The Hub OC.

Responsibilities

This will be accomplished in the following ways:

Content Creation
  • Working with the team to post multiple times weekly on The Hub OC social platform(s).
  • Working with the team to support program accounts when needed.
  • Working with the team on the content calendar as the source of truth.
Storytelling
  • Work with the team to capture video interviews, or compilations meant to tell a very specific story.
  • Help create the assets, or collaborate with those shooting the stories to get good content for ongoing social media posts related to that story.
Video & Photography
  • Be able to capture photos and video for social media posts.
  • Be part of the team supporting high-level events to capture content for social media posts.
  • Work with team to submit all photos and video assets in a similar way – archiving them in the chosen asset library.
Graphic Design
  • Basic graphic design skills are helpful.
  • Ability to use Canva to create small graphics, for use on social media.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience with social media platforms
  • Ability to craft media, copy, messaging for social media posts
  • Working knowledge of major social platforms and current trends

Desired Qualifications
  • Short and/or long-form video editing (CapCut, Reels/TikTok native tools, iMovie, Premiere, etc.)
  • Adobe Creative Suite experience
  • Familiarity with online storage platforms (Google Drive, Box, SmugMug)
  • Photography/Videography experience (Ability to take and edit for use on social media
