Job summary

Town of Thompsons Station is seeking a part-time social media strategist to develop and execute digital campaigns that reflect the Town’s initiatives and events.

Qualifications

Job description

Position Summary: Develop and execute social media strategies that highlight our initiatives, events, & community involvement. Informs residents of public safety and ensures legal compliance by managing digital content, community feedback and archiving public records. Attends regular weekly meetings on-site at Town Hall and any other special meetings regarding communications for the Town. This position will primarily be remote and part-time (up to 30 hours per week).General Statement of Duties: Manages online representation of the Town thru social networks and builds the Town identity online through content and visuals that are representative of theMinimum Qualifications and Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.Experience: 3-5 years of experience managing professional social media accounts, preferable in local government, civic or nonprofit organizations.Reports Directly to: Assistant Town AdministratorReview Responsibility: Assistant Town AdministratorEssential Duties and Tasks:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following duties are required:Design and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with the Town’s mission and goals.Manage daily operations of social media accounts on all platforms (Facebook, Linked In, etc.)Create and curate engaging and relevant content (video, graphics and copy) for digital platforms including websites, social media and video.Planning, implementing, managing, monitoring and upgrading the Town’s website.Ensures full compliance on the Town website with all laws and regulations.Use analytics tools to track social media and website traffic, user engagement and campaign performance as well as provide regular reports with actionable insights.Stay updated with industry regulations and best practices for data privacy and protection in digital marketing.Collaborate with department directors to ensure cohesive messaging to the Town.Optimize digital advertising campaigns by monitoring performance and targeting strategies to maximize return on investment.Demonstrate success in creating engaging, high-quality content using tools like Canva, Adobe and/or user-friendly design tools.Edit short-form content optimized for Facebook, Instagram Reels, LinkedIn, Twitter.Organize and manage media assets for quick turnaround and long-term content needs.This role requires strong judgment in content selection and quality, along with the ability to source and develop content from both within and outside the organization.Monitor social listening tools to track the Town’s mentions, industry trends and citizen feedback; respond proactively to foster positive relationships.Coordinate with Town leadership to align messaging during campaign, holidays or special events.Willingness to occasionally travel to support events, content capture, and community initiatives.Funnel content to Assistant Town Administrator for approval, accuracy, branding consistency and tone before publication.Ability to proofread while maintaining the Town’s voice and tone.Excellent analytical, problem-solving and planning skills.Keen attention to detail.Other related duties may be assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to plan, schedule, and generate content for social media.Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, to groups and individuals.Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with coworkers, the general public, and elected officials.Ability to analyze and resolve complex and sensitive problems.Ability to use available equipment.Ability to act without direct supervision when need arises.Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and other public officials.Maintain working knowledge of Town personnel policy.Ability to work in partnership with all segments of the community and the citizenry to fulfill the mission of the Town.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to work on tight deadlines.Preferred SkillsFamiliarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva & AI preferred.Physical Requirements and Work Environment:Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of standing, sitting, walking, hearing, kneeling, reaching, feeling, grasping, pushing, pulling, bending, climbing, crawling and performing repetitive motions.Daily operations require unaided lifting of objects weighing up to 30 pounds.Subject to working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, dust, dirt, and water.Work a variety of hours, including evenings, days, weekends, and holidays; consistently maintain mental alertness, remain calm and composed in difficult and emergency circumstances.
