The Town of Hull seeks a creative, organized Communications and Community Engagement Specialist to inform, engage, and connect residents across multiple platforms. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, English, or a closely related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public information, marketing, community engagement, or related field.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong writing, editing, storytelling, social media management, graphic design, photography, and video production skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Civic Plus, Owl Labs, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (including Premiere Pro), Final Cut Pro, or comparable software.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, creativity, and the ability to work independently while maintaining positive relationships with employees, officials, the media, and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and maintain content for the Town's website, social media, and other digital channels.
  • Create graphics, photos, videos, presentations, newsletters, and other materials that communicate Town programs and services.
  • Prepare news releases, public notices, FAQs, and other public information materials.
  • Support emergency notifications and public-awareness campaigns with Town leadership and public safety officials.
  • Coordinate media inquiries and assist with media relations.
  • Assist in preparing, editing, and producing the Town's monthly Newsletter.

Communications and Community Engagement Specialist

The Town of Hull is seeking a creative, organized, and community-focused professional to serve as its part-time Communications and Community Engagement Specialist. This position offers an exciting opportunity to help inform, engage, and connect residents by developing and delivering clear, timely, and accessible communications across multiple platforms.

Reporting to the Town Manager, the Communications and Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for supporting townwide communications, public engagement, media relations, and special projects. Under the direction of the Town Manager’s Office, the Specialist works collaboratively with Town departments, elected and appointed boards and committees, residents, members of the media, and community organizations to enhance transparency, promote civic engagement, and strengthen public awareness of Town initiatives, programs, and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, manage, and maintain content for the Town's website, social media platforms, and other digital communication channels.
  • Create graphics, photographs, videos, presentations, newsletters, and other communication materials that effectively communicate Town programs, initiatives, and services.
  • Prepare news releases, public notices, project updates, frequently asked questions (FAQs), and other public information materials.
  • Support emergency notifications, service disruption messaging, and public awareness campaigns in coordination with Town leadership, public safety officials, & Emergency Management.
  • Coordinate media inquiries and assist with media relations.
  • Assist in the preparation, editing, and production of the Town's monthly Newsletter.
  • Prepare communication materials, presentations, and meeting information for the Town Manager’s Office.
  • Plan and support community engagement initiatives, public outreach efforts, educational campaigns, and special events.
  • Help ensure all Town communications are accurate, consistent, accessible, and aligned with the Town's communication standards and branding.
  • Monitor public inquiries received through the Town's communication channels and coordinate responses with the appropriate departments.
  • Monitor communication trends and recommend innovative strategies to improve public engagement and outreach.
  • Attend evening meetings, weekend events, and other community activities as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, English, or a closely related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public information, marketing, community engagement, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong writing, editing, storytelling, social media management, graphic design, photography, and video production skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Civic Plus, Owl Labs, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (including Premiere Pro), Final Cut Pro, or comparable communication and multimedia production software.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects, establishes priorities, and meets deadlines.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, creativity, and the ability to work independently while maintaining positive working relationships with employees, elected officials, the media, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in municipal government, public-sector communications, media relations, public information, community engagement, or crisis and emergency communications is highly desirable. Experience supporting public meetings and working with elected officials, boards, and committees is preferred.

Schedule and Compensation

This is a part-time position averaging 19 hours per week.

The work schedule is flexible; however, regular evening meetings and occasional weekend events are an expected part of the position from time to time. The successful candidate must also be available, as needed, to assist with emergency communications and time-sensitive public information during emergencies or significant Town events.

Compensation

Compensation: $30,000 annually. This position is not benefit eligible.
