Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a proactive Cybersecurity Analyst to join the SOC team in Welkom, Free State. You will monitor, detect, and respond to security incidents, with a focus on continuous improvement of detection rules and SOC tooling.

The role requires 1–3 years in a SOC or related security role, a solid understanding of cyber threats, and the ability to work in a hybrid setup. Training and growth opportunities are available within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 1–3 years in a SOC or security operations role.
• Familiarity with SIEM platforms and security monitoring tools.
• Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor security alerts from SIEM, IDS/IPS, and endpoint detection tools.
• Analyze security events to identify threats, anomalies, and policy violations.
• Perform initial triage and investigation of incidents, documenting findings.
• Escalate confirmed incidents to senior analysts or IR teams per procedures.
• Assist in development and refinement of detection rules and alerting mechanisms.
• Maintain and tune SOC tools and technologies.
• Participate in threat hunting to identify security risks.
• Stay updated on threats, vectors, and defenses.
• Collaborate with IT teams to implement security best practices.
