Placements24 is seeking a proactive Cybersecurity Analyst to join the SOC team in Welkom, Free State. You will monitor, detect, and respond to security incidents, with a focus on continuous improvement of detection rules and SOC tooling.

The role requires 1–3 years in a SOC or related security role, a solid understanding of cyber threats, and the ability to work in a hybrid setup. Training and growth opportunities are available within a collaborative team.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and vigilant Cybersecurity Analyst to join their Security Operations Center (SOC) team in Welkom, Free State. This role is pivotal in the ongoing monitoring, detection, and initial response to security incidents affecting the organization. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of cyber threats, and a passion for protecting digital assets. You will be part of a dedicated team working to maintain the security and integrity of our client's IT infrastructure. Key Responsibilities

• Monitor security alerts from various sources, including SIEM, IDS/IPS, and endpoint detection tools.
• Analyze security events to identify potential threats, anomalies, and policy violations.
• Perform initial triage and investigation of security incidents, documenting findings accurately.
• Escalate confirmed security incidents to senior analysts or incident response teams according to established procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 1-3 years of experience in a SOC environment, cybersecurity operations, or a related IT security role.
• Familiarity with SIEM platforms and security monitoring tools.
• Understanding of common cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and attack methodologies.
• Basic knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP) and operating systems (Windows, Linux).
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
• Ability to work in a team and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to work shifts as required and be part of the hybrid work model in Welkom, Free State.
