Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an Automation / Orchestration / Security Engineer to design, build, and maintain security automation solutions. The role collaborates with Security Operations, Incident Response, IT, and Cloud/Platform teams to automate workflows and ensure scalable, auditable security processes.

The role emphasizes governance, RBAC, and secure coding practices, while integrating with SIEM, IAM, and cloud security tools to improve response efficiency.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in Automation/Security roles.
• Strong programming/scripting in Python, PowerShell, or JavaScript.
• Experience with automation/orchestration platforms such as Ansible, Itential, or VMware Aria Orchestrator.
• Hands-on with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, OAuth2, token-based authentication and mutual TLS.
• Knowledge of SIEM, IAM, cloud security and vulnerability management basics.
• Experience with Git workflows, code reviews, and testing practices.
• Strong documentation and communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver security automation and orchestration capabilities to speed response times.
• Develop and maintain SOAR playbooks for alert triage, containment, and remediation.
• Build integrations with SIEM, EDR/XDR, IAM, vulnerability management, ticketing, and cloud security tools.
• Create reusable automation components with logging, monitoring, and error handling.
• Automate operational procedures with SOC and Incident Response teams while enforcing approvals.
• Implement governance controls including RBAC, change management, and audit logging.
• Collaborate to automate security controls, compliance checks, policy-as-code, and hardening.
• Support incident response with automation for evidence collection and containment.
• Ensure secure coding practices and safeguard automation workflows from misuse.
• Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, and knowledge transfer materials.
