Job summary

Summit at Snoqualmie seeks a skilled Snowmaker III to operate and maintain snowmaking systems on Snoqualmie Pass. You will manage SMI fan guns, troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, and assist in training Snowmaker I and II staff while working in challenging mountain conditions.

This on-site role requires strong mechanical and electrical problem-solving abilities and a drive to perform in all weather.

Qualifications

  • 3–6 years of snowmaking experience.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Excellent communication for coordinating with operations teams.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize nozzle flow rates on spray manifolds for wet bulb temperature; adjust nucleator output for snow quality.
  • Operate SMI Super PoleCat fan guns in manual and automatic (SmartSnow7) mode, including oscillation, head jack, and HMI operation.
  • Follow SMI fan gun 480V safety protocols, including electrical pedestal disconnect switch procedures and power cord handling.
  • Position SMI towers, including 360° oscillation lock/unlock, work basket pivot, and head angle adjustment for coverage maximization.
  • Troubleshoot SMI systems, including gun component icing, component power loss issues, vault and actuator issues.
  • Interpret SmartSnow7 HMI displays, adjust flow presets, and communicate system alerts to the Control Room.

Overview

As a Summit at Snoqualmie Snowmaker III, you are a proficient snowmaker who operates the full range of snowmaking equipment, including: all fan guns, AWS units, manages valve houses and system troubleshooting, and helps train Snowmaker I and II staff. This hands-on and physically demanding position requires strong mechanical and electrical problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on mountainous terrain in all types of weather. Come work and play at Seattle’s home mountain, The Summit at Snoqualmie. Located an hour West of Seattle via Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass, The Summit includes four unique mountain areas, a snow tubing park, Nordic center, SnowSports School, and 10+ food and beverage establishments.

Responsibilities
Job duties may include, but are not limited to:
Long Term Thinking
  • Optimize nozzle flow rates on spray manifolds for wet bulb temperature; adjust nucleator output for snow quality
  • Provide standard maintenance and repair work on snow guns when they occur; and record work orders fully and accurately.
Excellence in Execution
  • Operate SMI Super PoleCat fan guns in manual and automatic (SmartSnow7) mode, including oscillation, head jack, and HMI operation
  • Follow SMI fan gun 480V safety protocols, including electrical pedestal disconnect switch procedures and power cord handling
  • Position SMI towers, including 360° oscillation lock/unlock, work basket pivot, and head angle adjustment for coverage maximization
  • Troubleshoot SMI systems, including gun component icing, component power loss issues, vault and actuator issues, basic snowmobile issues.
  • Interpret SmartSnow7 HMI displays, adjust flow presets, and communicate system alerts to the Control Room

  • Identify and flag hazardous hydrant conditions and communicate defects via proper radio protocol
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues, bringing solutions rather than waiting to be managed
  • Perform additional duties/support when necessary

  • Orient and assist Snowmaker I staff with safe hookup, hydrant operation, and gun startups
Qualifications
What we are looking for:
Required
  • 3-6 years of snowmaking experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues
  • Excellent communication skills for developing personnel and coordinating with operations teams
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license
Preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Related technical experience in mechanical or electrical trades
Wage and Benefit Info

The wage range for this positions is: from $27.00-29.00/hr DOE

  • This is a non-benefited role.
  • All individuals may contribute to the 401(k). An employee must work 1,000 hours in a calendar year to qualify for the discretionary match (there is a 2 year vesting cliff).
  • All individuals accrue sick time at 1 hour per 40 hours worked to a maximum of 64 hours per year.
