Job summary

The State of Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking temporary Snow Removal Operators for the 2026/2027 season. These positions involve operating heavy equipment, supporting snow and ice control, and performing routine maintenance tasks across several team sections in Shelbyville, Mattoon, Olney, and other counties.

Candidates must meet minimum education, hold appropriate CDLs with endorsements, have driving experience, and be able to work outdoors in harsh conditions.

Qualifications

• Requires four years of high school or equivalent.
• Seasonal: CDL with endorsements X or N, for two years; third year requires CDL A.
• One year of driving experience prior to appointment with clean record.

Responsibilities

• Operate CDL Class A or B licensed vehicles.
• Assist in emergency snow and ice control.
• Service, wash, and minor repairs of equipment such as trucks, tractors, snowplows, salt spreaders, etc.
• Perform routine housekeeping duties and other tasks at headquarters.
• Other duties as required or assigned.
