Job summary

State of Illinois is seeking a Highway Maintainer - Snow Removal Operator for District 9. This temporary on-call position supports winter operations and involves operating CDL Class A/B vehicles to maintain roads and related structures.

The role includes emergency snow and ice control, equipment servicing, and readiness for callouts from October through April, with duties outdoors in varying weather conditions. On-call shifts may be required and the position is in multiple Illinois locations.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of four years of high school.
• For seasonal employees, possession of a Class B CDL with appropriate endorsements (X or N) and no airbrake restrictions; in year three, Class A CDL with endorsements.
• Requires one year of driving experience immediately preceding appointment, free of incidents.

Responsibilities

• Operates CDL Class A or B licensed vehicles.
• Assists in emergency snow and ice control.
• Assists in servicing, washing, and minor repairs of equipment such as trucks, tractors, snowplows, salt spreaders, compressors, graders and other light highway equipment.
• Performs routine housekeeping duties and other tasks related to groundskeeping at headquarters.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned within the scope of those enumerated above.
