Job summary

The State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, is seeking Snow Removal Operators for the 2026/2027 season. Positions are on-call and based at multiple yard locations across Illinois, including East St. Louis.

Operators must have a Class B CDL with appropriate endorsements and a clean driving record, with duties spanning snow and ice control, equipment operation, and general maintenance. These hourly, non-benefit roles require ability to perform arduous outdoor labor in varying weather, and

Qualifications

• Requires four years of high school education or equivalent.
• Seasonal employees must possess a Class B CDL with endorsements X or N (and no airbrake restrictions) for two years; after year three, must have Class A CDL with endorsements X or N (no airbrake restrictions).
• Requires one year of driving experience immediately preceding appointment with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operates CDL Class A or B licensed vehicles.
• Assists in emergency snow and ice control.
• Maintains and minor repairs of equipment including trucks, snowplows, salt spreaders, and related gear.
• Performs routine housekeeping and other duties as assigned.
