Job summary

Food Bank For New York City is seeking an Engagement Coordinator to support the SNAP outreach network across NYC, recruit and coach CBOs, and coordinate training and technical assistance.

The role reports to the Benefits Network Manager and requires office-based work as well as virtual and field-based (in-person, on-site) support across New York City. Travel citywide is required, and the role focuses on expanding access to food and economic benefits for low-income New Yorkers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 1 year of experience in social services, benefits programming, or a similar field.
  • Strong project and relationship management skills, with experience liaising with community-based organizations or government agencies.
  • Knowledge of SNAP policy, application processes, or other income support benefits or programs offered by NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA) is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, PowerPoint and other applications; familiarity with Salesforce or other cloud-based data management tools is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse and low-income populations, with experience in community organizing or working with Emergency Food Providers strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and training facilitation skills.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to travel citywide, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for a network of community-based organizations (CBOs), providing technical assistance and support for their program implementation.
  • Maintain regular communication with partner agencies to help them meet monthly screening, application, and referral goals. Together with the Manager, this team supports between 50-100 sites annually.
  • Monitor partner performance on key SNAP metrics and TEN partner referrals; develop and implement technical assistance strategies to address performance areas to help network partners improve services.
  • In coordination with the Benefit Network manager, develop and implement annual activation plans with returning partners, Food Bank’s agencies and other organizations across NYC to expand capacity to provide SNAP and related services to their communities.
  • Recruit new partner agencies to participate in Food Bank’s SNAP and TEN programs and assess their capabilities to provide SNAP enrollment or outreach.
  • Develop service profiles of network members and determine their capacity to become a SNAP enrollment partner or a TEN-referral partner
  • Conduct new partner orientations and refresher trainings for existing CBOs to strengthen their capacity in SNAP and TEN.
  • Facilitate trainings on SNAP and TEN best practices, as well as Food Bank’s policies and procedures, to support partner organizations in delivering a dignified, high-quality experience for clients.
  • Develop and update documentation and reference guides, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) to standardize work and provide clear information and guidance to partners.
  • Support Network meetings (at least quarterly) to foster collaboration and address systemic challenges amongst CBOs in Food Bank’s network.
  • Coordinate site visits with CBOs to finalize the activation or recruitment process and with network partners to provide in-person technical support as needed.
  • Utilize Food Bank’s online Salesforce tool to track and monitor partner data, including SNAP applications and recertification submissions, partner referrals, client outcomes, and partner performance.
  • Analyze data reports to highlight impact and identify opportunities for program improvements.
  • In consultation with the Manager, develop and implement strategies based upon partner performance trends to respond to sites’ issues as needed.
  • Work closely with internal departments to coordinate outreach, support cross-program referrals, and ensure alignment with Food Bank’s strategic goals to optimize SNAP and other benefits participation in targeted neighborhoods or populations.
  • Support administrative tasks related to partner agreements and performance-based grant allocations. Coordinate grant compliance and performance, monitor partner progress against goals, and provide ongoing support as needed.
