Job summary

Pro-Active Engineering in Wisconsin is seeking an SMT Lead for 2nd shift (Mon-Thu 4:15 pm–2:45 am) to lead the SMT department, train staff, manage schedules, budgets, and quality, while ensuring safe production.

You will coach teams, assign daily tasks, review nonconforming products, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate with management to meet ship dates. Experience in electronics manufacturing preferred; equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Experience leading SMT or manufacturing teams preferred.
• Strong coaching and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Coach and develop all SMT team members.
• Assign and supervise daily tasks for direct reports.
• Oversee loading of components, screening, and hand placement.
• Manage changeovers, labeling, and First Article Approvals.
• Lead the team to meet department goals and objectives.
• Review and disposition nonconforming products.
• Drive daily continuous improvement in the SMT area.
• Follow assembly process docs to ensure quality and compliance.
• Coordinate with management to plan production schedules and resources.
• Program layouts before scheduled production runs.
• Troubleshoot machine problems and quality issues.
• Ensure SMT equipment maintenance is completed per procedures.
• Remove parts not meeting standards and notify management.
• Provide production feedback and hold morning meetings.
• Manage departmental budget for area upkeep.
• Review boards and post-assembly for defects.
• Overtime as needed to meet ship dates (with approval).
• Act as role model and maintain a positive attitude.
• Train and assist SMT staff with tasks and downtime support.
