Job summary

Jobot in Westwood, MA is seeking a detail-oriented SMT Operator to support fast-paced electronics manufacturing operations. You will set up, operate, and monitor SMT production equipment used to assemble PCBs and ensure quality and efficiency.

• Detail-oriented in a fast-paced production environment.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Operate SMT production equipment including screen printers, SPI, pick-and-place, reflow ovens.
• Perform machine setup, changeovers, feeder loading, and transitions per instructions.
• Verify component placement, feeder configuration, and machine programs before runs.
• Monitor equipment performance and identify defects or process issues.
• Perform first-piece inspections and support quality verification.
• Inspect PCBs for defects like missing components or solder issues.
• Respond to line stoppages and basic equipment alarms, escalating as needed.
• Track production data and maintain manufacturing records.
• Replenish components to ensure uninterrupted production.
• Follow IPC, ESD, safety and quality requirements.
• Support continuous improvement for productivity and quality.
• Collaborate with SMT Technicians, Process Engineers, QC, and Supervisors.

This individual will be responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring SMT production equipment used in the assembly of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast‑paced electronics manufacturing environment and a strong understanding of SMT processes, quality standards, and production requirements.

Job Details

Key Responsibilities

• Operate SMT production equipment including screen printers, solder paste inspection (SPI) systems, pick‑and‑place machines, reflow ovens, and associated equipment.
• Perform machine setup, changeovers, feeder loading, and product transitions according to work instructions and production schedules.
• Verify component placement, feeder configuration, and machine programs before production runs.
• Monitor equipment performance and identify defects or process issues during production.
• Perform first‑piece inspections and support quality verification activities.
• Inspect assembled circuit boards for defects such as missing components, polarity issues, tombstoning, bridging, and insufficient solder.
• Respond to line stoppages and basic equipment alarms, escalating issues as necessary.
• Track production data and maintain accurate manufacturing records.
• Replenish components and materials to ensure uninterrupted production.
• Follow ESD, IPC, safety, and quality requirements.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and efficiency.
• Work closely with SMT Technicians, Process Engineers, Quality personnel, and Production Supervisors to achieve manufacturing goals.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2+ years of experience operating SMT equipment in an electronics manufacturing environment.
• Experience with pick‑and‑place machines, screen printers, and reflow ovens.
• Ability to read work instructions, assembly drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
• Understanding of electronic components and PCB assembly processes.
• Familiarity with ESD procedures and electronics manufacturing best practices.
• Ability to identify common SMT defects and communicate quality concerns.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast‑paced production environment.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with equipment such as Fuji, Panasonic, Juki, Yamaha, ASM/Siplace, Universal, Hanwha, or Mycronic.
• IPC‑A‑610 certification.
• Experience working in a high‑mix, low‑volume or high‑volume EMS manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with AOI and SPI inspection processes.
• Basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance experience.
