Job summary

ANDONIAN ENTERPRISES INC. DBA DISCOUNT TIRE & SERVICE CENTERS in California seeks a Smog and Service Mechanic to perform diagnostic, emissions, mechanical, and tire-related repairs in the service department.

You will also handle routine manual tasks for the store operation, ensuring safety and quality in every job. Responsibilities include performing BAR-regulated Smog Check inspections, diagnosing emissions-related failures, and documenting results in BAR-OIS and company systems.

Qualifications

• Valid California Driver’s License with any changes reported to supervisors/HR.
• Current California BAR Smog Check Inspector License.
• Current California BAR Smog Check Repair Technician License.
• BAR-compliant Smog Check performance score (FPR 0.50 or lower; no High-Risk or STAR-Impact flags).

Responsibilities

• Perform California BAR-regulated Smog Check inspections (OIS, EIS, visual, functional, EVAP).
• Diagnose emissions-related failures and perform repairs within BAR scope.
• Document inspection results and repair recommendations in BAR-OIS and company systems.
• Inspect vehicles for service needs; perform front-end work, alignments, brakes, tune-ups.
• Load/unload products, maintain tools, provide professional customer contact, and attend trainings.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Smog and Service Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing all diagnostic, emissions, mechanical, and tire-related repair work in the Discount Tire & Service Centers service departments. You will also perform all manual tasks required in the operation of a Discount Tire & Service Centers store.

Job Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Smog & Emissions Responsibilities

• Perform California BAR-regulated Smog Check inspections (OIS, EIS, visual, functional, and EVAP tests).
• Maintain a BAR-compliant Smog Check performance score, including:
  • Failure Probability Rating (FPR) of 50 or lower
  • No High-Risk Technician designation
  • No STAR-Impact Technician designation
• Diagnose emissions-related failures and perform authorized repairs within your BAR certification scope.
• Accurately document inspection results and repair recommendations in BAR-OIS and company systems.

Mechanical & Diagnostic Responsibilities

1. Inspect each vehicle for product or service needs per company policy.
2. Remove and replace front-end components as needed or requested.
3. Perform front and rear alignments.
4. Perform brake repairs and services.
5. Perform under-the-hood services and tune-ups.
6. Troubleshoot customer vehicle complaints as instructed.
7. Remove and install shocks, batteries, and tires as requested by the Store Manager.

General Service Responsibilities

• Load and unload products from delivery trucks as instructed.
• Maintain company tools, diagnostic equipment, and BAR-required smog testing devices.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area consistent with company and safety standards.
• Provide professional and courteous customer contact.
• Attend company meetings and required training sessions.
• Relieve at other store locations as assigned by the Manager.
• Perform all other duties as directed by the Store Manager or Executive Team.

Qualifications

To remain eligible for this position, you must maintain:

• A valid California Driver’s License, with any changes reported immediately to supervisors/HR.
• A current California BAR Smog Check Inspector License.
• A current California BAR Smog Check Repair Technician License (required for emissions-related repairs).
• A BAR-compliant Smog Check performance score (FPR 0.50 or lower; no High-Risk or STAR-Impact flags).

Mechanics can voluntarily elect to use their own tools.
No mechanic shall be required to use his/her own tools and equipment while working at Discount Tire & Service Centers.
