Job description

SME, Secondary Engineering, Energy and Infrastructure Projects (Phoenix, AZ)

Location: Phoenix, AZ (On‑Site)

Who we are?

Built on more than a century of innovation and decades of substation expertise, Linxon blends AtkinsRéalis' project management strength with Hitachi Energy's technological leadership. Together, we deliver high‑performing EPC solutions that strengthen the power grid.

We support community growth and industrial development by providing end‑to‑end engineering, procurement, management, and construction services for complex AC substation and electrification projects across five core markets.

What We Believe?

We believe in the value of every client's investment and take pride in tackling challenging, high‑risk projects. With deep expertise and continuous development, our teams operate with the precision, resilience, and mission‑focus needed to deliver crucial infrastructure—often described as the special forces of our industry.

How will you make your impact?

As the Subject Matter Expert, Secondary Engineering, you will be a driving force within Linxons Engineering Team. In this influential role, you will lead and execute Secondary Engineering activities—including Control, Protection, SCADA, and Substation Automation—across a wide range of high‑impact infrastructure projects. These include Air‑Insulated (AIS) and Gas‑Insulated (GIS) substations, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Railway Electrification, Data Centers, and both offshore and onshore Wind facilities.

You will work closely with Project Lead Engineers, BIM Engineers, and Primary Engineers while reporting directly to the Engineering Manager. Though this is an individual‑contributor position, it is a highly visible and strategically important role—one that shapes project quality, technical excellence, and customer trust across the region.

This position also offers significant career growth potential. With strong performance and demonstrated leadership, you will have the opportunity to evolve into a Lead Engineer or Secondary Engineering Team Leader within the next 3–5 years, positioning you as a key technical leader in Linxon's future.

What will you do?
  • You will lead secondary engineering for major AIS/GIS, BESS, Rail, Data Center, and Wind projects, delivering safe, reliable, high‑performing substation systems.
  • You will develop specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), and coordinated designs that streamline procurement, reduce redesign, and ensure smooth construction and commissioning.
  • You will resolve vendor bid and design issues early to secure compliant, cost‑effective, and fully integrated solutions.
  • You will provide expert protection, control, SCADA, and automation guidance that improves system performance and reduces operational risk.
  • You will collaborate with customers, suppliers, and project teams to resolve technical challenges quickly and drive successful project outcomes.
  • You will review designs, support testing, and uphold quality standards to ensure accurate, reliable, and construction‑ready deliverables.
Who you are?
  • You have exposure to ETAP and SEL tools.
  • You have strong skills in CAD software, including AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • You have familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • You have a solid understanding of power systems and their application in substation environments.
  • You have a Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) certification.
  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience, or a Master's degree with 3+ years of experience.
