Job summary

Boater’s World Manufacturing Group in Chocowinity, NC is seeking a Small Parts LRTM Technician to produce fiberglass and composite components using Light Resin Transfer Molding. Qualifications

  • Previous hands-on manufacturing or boat/ marine experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to safely work with fiberglass, resins, catalysts, and composite materials.
  • Ability to operate LRTM, vacuum, resin injection and related production equipment.
  • Follow work instructions and production procedures with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Produce fiberglass and composite small parts using LRTM and related processes.
  • Prepare molds for production, including cleaning and applying mold-release materials.
  • Position reinforcement and materials according to specifications.
  • Close, seal, and prepare molds for resin injection.
  • Operate resin injection, vacuum and related production equipment.
  • Monitor resin flow, vacuum, pressure and other process requirements.
  • Ensure proper resin distribution and complete material saturation.
  • Remove completed parts from molds after cure and trim for inspection.
  • Maintain molds, tools, and equipment in good working condition.
  • Meet production targets while ensuring quality workmanship.
  • Coordinate with other production areas as needed.

Description

Boater’s World Manufacturing Group is seeking Small Parts LRTM Technicians to join our boat manufacturing operation in Chocowinity, North Carolina.

The Small Parts LRTM Technician is responsible for producing fiberglass and composite small parts using Light Resin Transfer Molding (LRTM) and related manufacturing processes. This position works with molds, fiberglass reinforcement, resins, vacuum systems, and production equipment to create quality components used throughout the boat assembly process.

Previous LRTM or boat manufacturing experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with transferable experience in fiberglass, composites, molding, lamination, automotive, RV, aerospace, or other hands‑on manufacturing environments are encouraged to apply.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Small Parts Production
  • Produce fiberglass and composite small parts using LRTM and related production processes
  • Prepare molds for production, including cleaning and applying mold-release materials as required
  • Position fiberglass reinforcement and other materials according to established specifications
  • Close, seal, and prepare molds for the resin injection process
  • Connect and operate resin injection, vacuum, and related production equipment
  • Monitor resin flow, vacuum levels, pressure, and other process requirements during production
  • Ensure proper resin distribution and complete material saturation
  • Follow established resin, catalyst, material, and process specifications
  • Safely remove completed parts from molds after proper cure
  • Trim, clean, and prepare completed parts for inspection or the next stage of production
  • Maintain molds, tools, equipment, and production materials in proper working condition
  • Meet established production expectations while maintaining quality workmanship
Quality & Inspection
  • Inspect molds and materials before beginning the production process
  • Inspect completed parts for proper cure, surface quality, dimensions, and overall workmanship
  • Identify air pockets, voids, dry areas, incomplete resin flow, surface defects, and other quality concerns
  • Perform minor rework or finishing as assigned
  • Report recurring mold, material, equipment, or quality issues to the appropriate supervisor
  • Follow established quality standards and production specifications
  • Help prevent damage to molds and finished components during handling and production
Equipment & Work Area
  • Safely operate LRTM equipment, vacuum systems, resin equipment, hand tools, and other production equipment
  • Perform routine cleaning and basic care of molds and equipment
  • Maintain an organized supply of fiberglass, resins, tools, and production materials
  • Keep work areas clean and free of unnecessary materials and hazards
  • Report equipment problems, damaged molds, or maintenance needs promptly
  • Coordinate with Lamination, Gelcoat, Mold Maintenance, Assembly, Quality, and other production areas as needed
Safety & Environmental
  • Safely handle fiberglass, resins, catalysts, chemicals, and other composite materials
  • Follow established procedures for material handling, storage, and disposal
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment
  • Follow company requirements related to ventilation, housekeeping, chemical handling, and manufacturing safety
  • Immediately report spills, hazards, injuries, equipment concerns, or unsafe conditions
  • Follow all company environmental, health, safety, quality, and production procedures
Requirements
  • Previous hands‑on manufacturing, fiberglass, composites, molding, lamination, or similar production experience preferred
  • Ability to safely work with fiberglass, resins, catalysts, and other composite materials
  • Ability to operate or learn LRTM, vacuum, resin injection, and related production equipment
  • Ability to safely use common hand tools and production equipment
  • Ability to follow work instructions, measurements, material specifications, and established production procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to identify visible defects and inconsistencies in finished components
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a production team
  • Dependable attendance and ability to work a consistent manufacturing schedule
  • Ability to follow all safety procedures and properly use required PPE
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Light Resin Transfer Molding (LRTM) experience
  • Previous boat or marine manufacturing experience
  • Fiberglass or composites manufacturing experience
  • Experience with resin injection and vacuum systems
  • Experience preparing, closing, sealing, and maintaining composite production molds
  • Experience with fiberglass reinforcement materials and resin systems
  • Marine, automotive, RV, aerospace, or other composites manufacturing experience

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Regular exposure to fiberglass, resins, catalysts, chemicals, dust, odors, noise, tools, equipment, and varying temperatures
  • Ability to stand and work for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive production activities
  • Ability to work in and around molds and manufacturing equipment
  • Ability to lift, carry, position, and move materials, molds, and components as required by the position
  • Must wear required PPE and follow all facility safety procedures
  • Where respirator use is required, must satisfy applicable medical‑evaluation and fit‑testing requirements
